Among the most unusual groups of actors on a contemporary television production is Jury Duty's ensemble. The Office executive producers Lee Eisenberg and Gene Stupnitsky co-created the Amazon Freevee comedy program, which debuted on April 7, 2023, having had formerly collaborated on the sitcom SMILF. The idea of the series was to turn a prank show into a full-on longform comedy with a loosely written mock trial taking place in front of a participant ignorant of the fact his jury duty was fictitious.
Most of the stars portraying the other jurors and the participants in the trial were performers who wouldn't necessarily be familiar to an ordinary Joe, therefore preserving the hoax at the center of the Jury Duty show. Actor Ronald Gladden, from Wallowa, Oregon before migrating to San Diego, technically received his big break with the Amazon Freevee series since he was not an actor before showing up on the show. Working in construction at the time, he thought he was part of a true documentary on jury service.
