Joker 2 Ending Explained: Reddit Theory, Fight Club Comparison, & Joker's Future

The Joker movies have been a big deal! Joaquin Phoenix's performance was amazing and won many awards! However, the sequel, Joker: Folie à Deux, released in 2024, hasn't done as well with fans, causing plenty of buzz about how it performed! Many think it didn't give enough of Joker!

Joker: Folie à Deux- A Controversial Sequel

In Joker: Folie à Deux, Lady Gaga plays Harley Quinn as Joaquin Phoenix's character, Arthur Fleck, tries to work through his life. It looks like the big reveal that was hinted in trailers never really materialized for some fans as he gives up on his Joker persona, shockingly deciding that this iconic villain never even existed.

In fact, things end badly as Fleck ends up dying after getting into a conflict with an inmate.

What's really caught many people's attention, particularly on Reddit, was this insane theory from user Quirky-Pause2910!

This crazy theory gives another perspective for Joker: Folie à Deux fans.

What if the person who kills Fleck isn't actually another Joker, but the one inside his mind? This means Joker himself. So it's basically a different way of showing what these films have already shown that Joker is this super violent and scary person!

What was truly noteworthy was how this idea ties together. The poster shared it as the theory also talks about another really well-known movie. What we're talking about, is the really memorable film called Fight Club from 1999!

  • That famous Fight Club ending was just incredible, especially how Edward Norton found his villainous character, Tyler Durden.
  • This Reddit post looks to show what really made Fight Club memorable was that Durden was in Norton's mind all along! That's something worth taking time and pondering on and some think there's this kind of parallell between these two awesome projects.

In Joker: Folie à Deux's version, Joker was already inside him and ends up eliminating this Arthur Fleck personality, which gives us a great insight.

If the crazy Reddit theory were true about what Joker: Folie à Deux wanted to share with audiences this would truly be one epic change, offering up the conclusion many people craved, changing the movie dramatically for those that saw "Joker: Folie à Deux."! This ending brought out plenty of comments from those disappointed about this ambiguous story of Arthur and the new release gave rise to some major criticisms about how he had completely renounced "The Joker" and stated that this iconic villain never really existed.

However, if the Reddit theory really is the conclusion to "Joker: Folie à Deux" that changes everything!

Many were very critical that Arthur gave up Joker. If he was defeated then that solves one of the issues fans pointed out about this disappointing sequel and also highlights Joker taking complete control in that special moment that took place. And in this sense it helps to give the mental health issue another perspective as well.

If you thought this might set up for something bigger that would really grab the attention of DC Comics fans!

You would be partially wrong as Todd Phillips came out and announced, back in 2024, there were not any plans for more movies in the Joker franchise, despite rumors of another Joker movie in the series.

That didn't quite quell fans excitement though, and given the ending that came with the Reddit post the ending could totally work for at least another sequel showing the complete takeover from Joker, as there's always the tease at a new Joker ready to emerge!

Fans can always enjoy the legacy, or at least whatever might end up happening! However. If it does mean it's not more Joker, for now, we'll be left looking at other projects to fulfill those cravings!

The Reddit theory adds another interesting possibility that leaves people hoping that the ending for "Joker: Folie à Deux" can offer a really remarkable discussion amongst the comic-book loving crowd and gives this particular ending even more life. For many it has just been a big disappointment and perhaps this unique perspective of just what Joker: Folie à Deux meant for these well known characters and the films themselves, gives everyone an appreciation of just how fascinating and powerful this franchise was! And might continue to be for ages!
