It Ends With Us Movie: The Story Of Lily And Ryle, With Changes!
The movie, based on the popular Colleen Hoover book - It Ends With Us, is getting all the attention! You are going to be a super fan, or maybe you already are!
What's Different From The Book?
- Well, there are always a ton of changes! That's because a book is a different animal from a movie. This adaptation took it even further.
- The book has some intense journaling in a letter format and she writes to Ellen DeGeneres! You know what I am talking about, right? That famous talk show host? The movie creators got rid of almost all those references!
What About The "Ellen" Journaling?
- You know, It Ends With Us has been out for a while, but it became huge in those Booktok reviews. They took out all that Ellen DeGeneres journaling for good reason! It was just a bad call to use her for a big part of the story after the crazy news about her, you know, the rumors about a toxic workplace? If they left those bits in, the movie might have been even more controversial!
- There's just one little "Easter Egg" for the book readers: they actually had Lily write for a couple of seconds to Ellen DeGeneres in the movie, to just remind you. You'll have to look close! The whole movie just tells the story about Lily through traditional flashbacks, showing how her tough past impacts everything.
Why Were The References Changed?
Let's be honest! The creators had to be strategic! The book itself, when it came out, had nothing to do with Ellen DeGeneres's allegations, so there was no reason to take things out. It was just Colleen Hoover's story.
That being said, the creators probably had to make a decision. It was super important for them to win over those book lovers!
How Are These Changes Important For The Movie?
- If you haven't seen the movie yet, it tells a story about an abuse survivor named Lily. It's super powerful and makes you think, but that kind of drama with Ellen DeGeneres's controversy surrounding her might have distracted from the actual message they wanted to bring up - the need to break the cycle of violence.
- Think about the fact that It Ends With Us also got a "Finding Nemo" reference. In the movie, the "Lily" past, how she was as a teenager, and how she became an adult all get shown through the story. Even though they didn't have her mention that Finding Nemo detail from the book!
So you’ve got your Lily Journal (no Ellen DeGeneres Journal this time) and an updated storyline that gets Lily's daughter - and Lily’s entire relationship - all mixed up with her tough history! It really shows how Lily was when she was a young girl and that becomes super important! We’ve been talking about the book for ages, and it seems to have a super special meaning that goes beyond just Lily's story!
You're definitely going to want to dive into this one. You could spend some time thinking about this movie! That's especially true since you're hearing that this could lead to other books that will give us more information about these characters - so those movie versions can’t just use the same information, right?!
Check out the Movie Adaptation. And don't forget those awesome movie references, too, and hopefully you’ll love this Colleen Hoover movie!
