Why Marvel Fans Feel Blade Is In Deadpool & Wolverine (& Why I'm Not Convinced)
Though the speculations regarding Blade's appearance in the forthcoming Marvel Cinematic Universe entry Deadpool & Wolverine have only grown over time, they seem to have some holes. Looking at the narrative of Deadpool & Wolverine and its multiverse inclinations, one can find history for the figure showing up in the movie: Ryan Reynolds starred famously in Blade: Trinity opposite Wesley Snipes twenty years ago. One more recently published picture, however, suggests that the half-vampire hero might be showing up in the movie in another form.
When few other comic-book projects were doing, Blade launched a horror franchise in movie theaters and has been a key component in Marvel narrative. This has improved public perception of the hero and viewers now eagerly await his arrival into the Marvel Cinematic Universe in the forthcoming Blade film. The movie has sadly run across a few issues, including losing its second director. But this has made viewers even more ravenous for the hero's possible MCU premiere via Deadpool & Wolverine.
Marvel Fans See Blade Variants of Deadpool and Wolverine revealed.
Recently, a still from the next Deadpool & Wolverine shows a character who resembles Blade rather strongly. The titular figures in the picture are shown in a wasteland set in costume surrounded by several other people. Viewers staring over Deadpool's shoulder will find a bald man sporting a black trenchcoat. Based on conjecture about this, some people have come to assume that Eric Brooks—AKA Blade—is indeed this character. Looking at the wide spectrum of performers hired for Deadpool, Blade seems quite fitting.
This is clearly not Wesley Snipes in the picture, which sparks discussion about the man shown in the image looking more toward the Blade that ran across the brief CW show Blade: The Series. Following his film trilogy, the 2006 series caught up Blade's narrative and starred Sticky Fingaz, AKA Kirk Jones, in the title role. Only running for 13 episodes, the show drew a mixed reception. Since it has been essentially forgotten, including Sticky Fingaz as the character seems odd.
The History of Ryan Reynolds With Blade Expained
Given Ryan Reynolds' past with the character, Blade's appearance in Deadpool & Wolverine has good justification. Reynolds first starred as Hannibal King in Blade: Trinity with Wesley Snipes and Jessica Biel before he became the household name he is today. Although Blade: Trinity matched the box gross of the first film, Snipes' Blade trilogy's last installment was criticized critically. It is currently usually regarded as the worst episode in a Blade trilogy that nonetheless contains many merits.
Talk of production problems also permeated the memory of the picture, with allegations of conflict between Wesley Snipes and David Goyer, the writer, and between Snipes and Reynolds personally. This has been a factor in debates about whether Blade will show up in the most recent Deadpool film since Sticky Fingaz would make more sense for the movie to include than Wesley Snipes.
Why Do I Not Think That's Blade in the Promos for Deadpool and Wolverine?
Notwithstanding all this, adding Sticky Fingaz's Blade to Deadpool and Wolverine would be an odd decision that doesn't seem quite reasonable. Although good as meta-commentary for the knowledgeable, most viewers are not familiar with the CW version of the character. That version of Blade is not popular, hence bringing him into the movie would not make much difference for most of the audience. Moreover, the clever, humorous, and well-considered promotion for the movie makes the Blade leak in the background of a photograph look somewhat improbable.
Although the background character for Deadpool & Wolverine is also sporting a black trenchcoat, it's also interesting to consider that this could just be a result of the post-apocalyptic environment allowing this kind of outfit. Almost all of the several views of this scene point to the appearance of other X-Men characters, notably the Omegas team from The Last Stand. This suggests that the character might be someone from the crew like Spike, or, given the other people in the picture, he might even be simply a background extra.
MCU Debut for Blade: What Future Does the Vampire Hunter Have?
Though there are several reasons to suspect Blade would show up in Deadpool & Wolverine, there are few to indicate this is the unveiling for the character. Sticky Fingaz's appearance would hardly thrill supporters, and the reaction to this image seems out of line given what is on show. Likewise, it seems improbable whether Blade shows up in Deadpool & Wolverine or not if the CW version exists. Either way, it will be fascinating to watch whether Eric Brooks travels to the Marvel Cinematic Universe after Deadpool & Wolverine opens in July.
