But what really turned things upside down, in this original version that the DVD included! Well, this alternate ending was so well loved! Even more so for fans who really understood the importance of Richard Matheson's 1954 book of the same name.

That moment of self-realization and insight led him to free a woman infected by the virus to reunite with the other Darkseekers and his heart-wrenching experiment with an infected woman really comes into play! She became one of the victims! This was part of what made audiences realize the humanity of this movie's story.

What Changed The End For I Am Legend?

It looks like everyone can't agree! While there is a lot that might go into this. What was initially presented was not what audiences wanted and really did not make a powerful impression on the story, so changes had to be made.

These were some key changes that the director, Francis Lawrence, took a look at! That involved changing the story with a focus to show what a selfless, courageous, and kind hero Robert Neville actually was, even giving his life to help others in that moment of crisis!

It all stemmed from test audiences that had seen a very, very early version of the movie. They found the story completely underwhelming.
So to correct that they altered it.
The most interesting twist was that audiences thought they should kill off Robert Neville, making his sacrifice a defining moment!

That has an awesome, exciting plot that will continue "I Am Legend's" story but the major factor that stands out from everything else is what really happened! What is even more shocking about the sequel is that it will not be building on that "Will Smith Dies" moment. Instead it looks to honor that alternate ending!

There were plenty of people left to wonder. How is "Will Smith", "Robert Neville" going to be able to make it back. Now, everyone's questions are starting to be answered.

I Am Legend 2 is about to bring fans the latest adventures! But this won't just be any run-of-the-mill sequel. Instead, it looks like we are going to get an adventure that builds on Robert Neville surviving Manhattan and taking off to a new spot - Vermont! That's a new location! It also leaves so many fans with unanswered questions. The new cast includes Michael B. Jordan as one of the characters we will be meeting, and audiences are going to get a glimpse into the world after those zombie-like figures that are so hard to take down, are given new abilities and their story will progress forward.

What makes it even more intense. The fact that "Robert Neville", did he use the cure that he discovered? Or, does he find that these Darkseekers are so special that he needs to give them a life of their own and even be a protector to them! It certainly looks like we're in for some twists and turns.

If it seems like a big shift. The alternate ending brings in such a massive difference to I Am Legend and it will leave a lasting impact.

The movie I Am Legend really is not the only movie that went on to release an Alternate Ending.

The Butterfly Effect also gave us a big look at its ending. The version released had Evan getting caught up in time-travel and altering events to prevent his best friends from meeting him in that space. That made him disappear and that is exactly what he wanted but for a new set of fans it ended so tragically as "Evan", that same character, took a more violent step back, as far back as the moment that he was in the womb!

What really happens? Evan strangles himself, adding to the tension and what makes this film so shocking!

Clue had a super interesting way to give audiences the big reveal!
The show actually had 3 unique endings to showcase all those big secrets to fans.
Every time you see that twist ending there is someone new to get a win for the game and the story continues in a wild way!
