Now accessible on Netflix is a ten-year-old Brad Pitt movie called Fury. Though it is still underappreciated, this horrific combat film has merit. Over his career, Brad Pitt has starred in plenty of different types of Movies. Although he hasn't yet explored several genres, he seems to have mastered most popular ones. He has especially worked on various military films. Though Quentin Tarantino's Inglourious Basterds is his most well-known war film, he has also starred in several somewhat underknown World War dramas. One such movie, Fury, has a star-studded cast and presents a severe picture of combat. Though it has virtues, most mainstream movies in the genre are not acknowledged in this movie. Luckily, its appearance on Netflix offers viewers a fresh stream-ability chance.
Written, directed, and co-produced by David Ayer, best known for End of Watch and Suicide Squad, Fury stars Brad Pitt as a tank commander navigating the war-torn landscapes of Nazi Germany in April 1945 facing terrible difficulties and tough decisions. Bracing Brad Pitt in Fury are Shia LaBeouf, Logan Lerman, Jon Bernthal, and Michael Peña. David Ayer found motivation for Fury from his family's military veterans. Books like Belton Y. Cooper's Death Traps, which chronicles the great death toll of American tank crews against the well-equipped German forces, also had an impact on the director. Fury kept a "Certified Fresh" Rotten Tomatoes score of 76% after its premiere, receiving generally good comments from both audiences and reviewers. With a budget of $80 million and a revenue of about $211.8 million, the film broke even but not a hit.
Fury does not show obvious heroes and villains during its whole running length. Rather, it shows its protagonists as just soldiers stuck in the terrible machinery of war. Although the movie features multiple big-scale action scenes and violent scenes, some of its most disturbing moments happen when its five major characters are imprisoned within one tank. The movie makes the viewers feel claustrophobic in these sequences, reminding them of the stifling forces troops most certainly encountered in high-stress conflict.
It is evident from the film's principal crew traversing dangerous missions that in the theater of battle they are all disposable. Fury emphasizes the disposable nature of every individual in order to underline the violence of war. The video shows close talks between them as they negotiate their high-risk missions, stressing how, while being the heroes, they are as weak and vulnerable as their foes. Given Brad Pitt's cruel encouragement of a young gunner to kill a vulnerable adversary, even his primary character is not shown as a hero.
Among at least seven war films Brad Pitt starred in are Inglourious Basterds, Fury, Troy, Legends of the Fall, Seven Years in Tibet, Allied, and War Machine. Though its portrayal of the brutal reality of World War II makes Fury among Brad Pitt's better war pictures even if it may not rank as high as Inglourious Basterds. By playing a morally flawed but profoundly complicated and relevant character, the movie also lets Brad Pitt highlight his acting ability.
Even the supporting cast members give amazing performances that guarantee their characters stay with the audience long after the credits have rolled. Its violence means that not all viewers could be able to handle its hard-hitting themes and images. Now that it's on Netflix, though, the Brad Pitt war drama should get the respect it merits when it first opens theatres.
