Furiosa: Critical Darling, Box Office Flop? Mad Max Prequel Review

Furiosa: A Mad Max Saga – Why This Amazing Movie Deserved a Bigger Win!

Mad Max: A Legacy of Consistent Quality, From 1979 to Today!

The Mad Max franchise is legendary.  It's been a cultural force for almost 45 years, evolving from a gritty Aussie thriller into those epic, high-budget Hollywood blockbusters; yet despite how enormous that impact has become, this consistency throughout remains quite amazing. The visionary director, George Miller, remained at the helm for the whole journey; the director kept this intense, creative level over those many years, making this series completely exceptional and unique amongst its contemporaries! Unlike others–such as the inconsistent Star Wars prequels or the much-criticized Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull— Miller has demonstrated an amazing, impressive level of quality across this vast production spanning an entire career. Mad Max consistently delivers top-tier quality!

The amazing Rotten Tomatoes scores absolutely back this claim. Across those many decades, they consistently score remarkably high. This indicates amazing, widely shared approval; and these kinds of consistently superb levels over such long periods truly cement the amazing and outstanding brilliance in every Mad Max movie!

Furiosa's critical reception– the "Tomatometer" score on Rotten Tomatoes is nearly perfect (90%), and exactly identical to that original 1979 Mad Max movie! And even more amazing;  the rest score highly too. The Road Warrior is at 94%!  Only Beyond Thunderdome has anything below 90% (79%), but that is still above-average, something to really showcase this impressive production’s success across these varied titles.  And Fury Road? That one is exceptionally impressive (97%!). Those numbers highlight exactly just how superb each entry consistently is throughout.    Furiosa's identical score to the original truly cements how great Miller remains as a visionary filmmaker.

It’s important to look further than merely Tomatometer, we also look at those Audience Scores on the Rotten Tomatoes Popcornmeter which measures the overall audience responses toward the various productions that they already rated, creating yet another benchmark to evaluate those existing film scores.

But Furiosa’s performance wasn’t simply Critical Acclaim; its audience response is simply the highest (89%) amongst all the other titles and higher than even the highly-acclaimed Road Warrior and Fury Road!   This suggests those fans also loved Furiosa and shows their appreciation toward Miller's consistent style. That consistent success, however is only found here: the remaining titles scored far below compared to Furiosa and demonstrates just why critics and fans alike continued supporting Miller’s Mad Max throughout these multiple decades!  This really highlights just how critically successful each film actually has become, despite that existing contrast in success between critical response and audience’s viewpoints toward that specific film. Those huge differences however were never nearly this immense.

So, a critically acclaimed movie, a fan favorite… Why was Furiosa a Box Office flop when it was initially released in May?  This simply feels wrong, really highlighting that audience response versus box office success might never match. It could be explained in a simple way; there is still competition for that audience attention in cinema! Fury Road’s fame; however overshadows it; a smaller audience than hoped for makes its success extremely hard. Those ongoing problems affecting cinema– people moving away from theaters for those easily accessible streaming platforms is another issue. But despite the circumstances that prevented it becoming a hugely massive commercial success– Furiosa absolutely deserved way better!

Furiosa is undeniably a superb movie– one showing Miller's continued creative prowess and brilliant vision. The exceptional positive response only makes the relatively poor box office results an even more shocking display. However, the continued critical acclaim across the long period in the Mad Max Franchise only proves a singular thing; the value provided far exceeds those shortcomings; emphasizing that while the specific production could’ve experienced difficulties surrounding marketing or that other unpredictable factors regarding movie releases– its continued, outstanding, overwhelmingly positive response will generate its needed successes across many different platforms.
