Elvis Presley , the King of Rock ‘n’ Roll, is a figure that continues to capture the world’s attention, and would be turning 90 years old this year. His music along with his impact on popular culture remains notable even to the younger audiences.
Even in current times a deep devotion exists by many and new people continue to become fans of Elvis Presley. A devoted super fan for 50 years Gilles Moriarty described the " Shakespearian arc " of his life. He went from a small town boy to being an extremely large iconic figure and yet having an “undesirable end”. Elvis was deemed “groundbreaking" due to being one of the first to blend black and white culture’s music to influence what we know as “rockabilly”. He was inspired by many black musicians from the South which he combined with a pop sensibility. This was done by his original performance quality and his vocal delivery was also groundbreaking making his style difficult to put into any one genre. He influenced many artists and performers for his unique approach to sound and culture and helped define a musical style.
When he began making music his appeal crossed several different cultural lines. As stated before the perception of that drew much concern and attention in his early performances with concerns about morals in the younger viewers however his fame only grew. He made way for all that followed which has helped make him so culturally important.
Behind all of the music and performance Elvis was noted as a man from a humble background and did what he could to give back and provide what he had to the world. Though much success surrounded him it also came with much sadness as his story was told it also focused on how fame had taken its toll on his life.
Elvis’ life is often noted as a rise from humble origins into worldwide fame with an undesirable ending due to substance use. However he maintained his presence in public and never stopped trying to perform and showcase his work through any means he could at the time.
There was no one like Elvis as noted in his many styles of performance from raw emotional delivery to his very calculated moves on stage, but when the music began the passion was clearly delivered. He always had a connection to any audience he was near and there was no doubting how talented his was in connecting to others.
His voice remains iconic throughout the world along with his charisma which has proven to stand the test of time. While performing solo or on large stages with choreography and a band Elvis shows his true talent. This versatility allowed him to touch a range of audiences and different levels of cultural engagement which ultimately set him apart from others.
