Disney+ Price Hike: New Plans and Content Updates for Fall 2024
Get ready, Disney+ fans! It's time for a price hike! The streaming service is upping the cost of nearly every plan and bundle starting in October 2024. This price hike may sting, but Disney+ is sweetening the deal with some new features and content additions, although it will still cost you more!
There are some advantages to Disney+'s move, though. The good news is that, even though most people aren't pleased with the rising costs, this isn't a knee-jerk decision! They have new content on their platform, which may not completely outweigh the price hike, but does show an effort to make the extra cash more worthwhile.
How Much is Disney+ Now, and What's Changing?
Disney+ has various plans, which range in price and streaming options (ads, no ads) so here is how they will look like in October 2024:
| Disney+ Plan | Previous Price | New Price | | ---------------------------------------- | -------------- | ----------- | | Disney+ Basic (with Ads) | $7.99 | $9.99 | | Disney+ Premium (No Ads) | $13.99 | $15.99 | | ESPN+ | $10.99 | $11.99 | | Hulu with Ads | $7.99 | $9.99 | | Hulu with No Ads | $17.99 | $18.99 | | Disney Duo Basic (Disney+ & Hulu with Ads) | $9.99 | $10.99 | | Disney Duo Premium (Disney+ & Hulu No Ads) | $19.99 | $19.99 | | Disney Bundle Trio Basic (Disney+, Hulu w/ Ads, & ESPN+) | $14.99 | $16.99 | | Disney Bundle Trio Premium (Disney+, Hulu w/o Ads, & ESPN+) | $24.99 | $26.99 | | Hulu + Live TV (With SVOD Ads) | $76.99 | $82.99 | | Hulu + Live TV (No SVOD Ads) | $89.99 | $95.99 |Some plans have been impacted with a $1 to $2 increase while Hulu + Live TV will rise by $6, so you'll definitely feel the change there! This may leave some Disney+ subscribers to reevaluate their budget for the month as it goes into effect on October 17th. The only plans that will not have a change in cost are the no-ads Disney Duo Premium bundle (which is also being left alone!), and a package featuring Disney+, Hulu, and Max will keep the current price!
The Struggle to Become Profitable - What’s Disney+ Going Through?
It sounds a little bit like a movie about financial trouble! Disney+, along with Hulu and ESPN+ as a whole, is making some profit these days (finally!) but if you take out the whole Disney+ section, well, it's a whole different story. Turns out, the big kahuna, Disney+, has actually lost money, hence the need for this new price increase.
Everyone, even big businesses, can have trouble with things. Disney is not immune, and you can blame a little something called COVID-19. It messed up the way Movies and TV are released. It also really threw a wrench into the production of these new shows, and let’s face it – new content is what keeps people signing up! Even if we think that new shows will be great!
More Content for More Cash?
To calm down those subscribers who might be grumpy, Disney+ is trying to add more goodies! A big plus is that you'll be able to watch ABC News Live for free on any plan - that means you won't need the expensive bundle! Kids will be happy with a preschool playlist for some of their shows!
If you subscribe to the Disney+ premium plans (aka the ones without ads, yay!), then Disney is also tossing in four new playlists, including themed shows! Think of it like a new and updated playlist for your favourite Disney shows, marvel Movies, or even nostalgic movies! That’s all the old school classics for all those subscribers that feel like there isn’t enough content available right now!
Will this Price Hike Drive Viewers Away?
Disney+, has a problem - its big superhero brand, the Marvel Cinematic Universe, is also having some issues! Turns out, there will be less Marvel stuff on the disney+ streaming service in 2024. So, what will they have to look forward to?
If viewers are losing a bunch of big, hyped-up movies and the price is rising, you'd think it might drive viewers away, right? You know how people are - it's not really cool to spend extra and then see that there is less of the content you want available to watch. It might lead those Disney+ viewers to cancel their subscription, find something else to watch, or stick to the cheaper plans to get a smaller amount of shows for their budget. You never know!
