Although it seems almost clear that Capcom is working on Resident Evil 9, most recent rumors about the sequel imply that it might still be some time before it releases. Given the degree of quality observed in the previous Resident Evil releases, it is scarcely surprise that Village and Resident Evil 4 Remake is generating increasing enthusiasm in the community about the next major game. The ninth chapter of the story is allegedly to include major deviations from the accepted formula, which could be the reason it has been postponed.
Posting on X (previously Twitter), AestheticGamer—also known as Dusk Golem—who has a great track record in forecasting Resident Evil and Capcom news—posted on X—that people expecting an announcement regarding Resident Evil 9 in the summer of 2024 will be disappointed. They assert that the game has been relocated inside to seek a late 2025/2026 release date, hence it would probably be unveiled closer to the end of 2024. Though the reason of the claimed Delay is yet unknown, Dusk Golem says Capcom is also working on other Resident Evil games.
Though it's just conjecture, a popular belief regarding the Delay of Resident Evil 9 is that it will show a notable deviation from the normal formula, particularly in terms of its design. According to several leakers, Capcom is adding to the open-world component of the franchise originally highlighted in Resident Evil: Village. Whether or not that is accurate is yet unknown, but Dusk Golem has said before that Capcom is trying to produce a significant ending since Resident Evil 9 will apparently signal the end of one narrative and the start of another.
Fans of the series still have lots of interesting releases to look forward even if Resident Evil 9 is pushed back by a few months. Dusk Golem also implies that Capcom is working hard on remakes of the neglected Resident Evil 0 and Resident Evil: Code Veronica in the same post they address the next major title. They also highlight the fact that there is no current production on a remake of Resident Evil 5, therefore refuting assertions that it will be the next major release for the franchise.
Although fans of the franchise are most likely still hoping that Resident Evil 9 doesn't spend too much time in development, based on Capcom's recent past, it seems safe to conclude that the company will take as long as it needs. Capcom obviously has a strategy in place given the great success it discovered with titles like the 2, 3, and 4 Remakes as well as the redesigned first-person installments. Having said that, many fans have asked for a complete reinterpretation of Code Veronica, hence should that come sooner than expected, many will be happy to wait a little bit longer for the ninth game.
This Delay worries the community as Dusk Golem was accurate in the past and they trust their knowledge. Although many people are eager about Resident Evil 9, the delay could be a sign that the game is being produced with a particular degree of care or is merely an early rumor to be treated with a grain of salt. When fans may expect to hear more about Resident Evil 9 from Capcom will depend only on time.
