Deadpool & Wolverine: Where'd That Old Deadpool Go?
Remember that first Deadpool movie back in 2009 with Ryan Reynolds? It was super weird. Like, totally different from the crazy, mouthy Deadpool everyone loves now. They kinda went overboard with the "ugly mutant" vibe. And those "no talking" scenes? Brutal. Fans made jokes about it all the time, even in those new "Deadpool" Movies, calling out Reynolds' first appearance as "Weapon XI". But with the latest deadpool & Wolverine movie bringing together all kinds of versions of Deadpool? You gotta ask – why didn’t that OG Deadpool show up?
The new movie brought all kinds of versions of Deadpool to form this superteam – "Deadpool Corps". Those guys were hilarious and really crazy, but that first Deadpool from X-men Origins: Wolverine? Not there! And even if it wasn’t about adding more gags, just to have that version of deadpool around, for us to look at and say "I'd forgotten how bad that movie was" – I’m sure it would've made a few more laughs for viewers. What was the big problem here? Well, the answer isn’t hard to find in another Deadpool film!
Who Took That "Worst" Deadpool Out of the Equation? Ryan Reynolds
You have to appreciate how wild this gets. The movie version of Deadpool – like the real Deadpool in that universe – totally took out his past self in "deadpool 2". Yup! Deadpool's all about that super healing thing. So when Cable got into the time-traveling scene and Deadpool realized the past self could have made things harder – well, it wasn't so hard. A few bullets to the head did the job for the good ol' "Weapon XI" version, meaning he doesn’t get to hang out with the rest of the crazy Deadpool Corps.
Remember that OG "Weapon XI"? The healing factor was through the roof in X-men Origins. And you wanna know what Deadpool said about this? He shot him in the head like, "It's okay if it takes five more rounds! He’ll still be fine!" But we kinda have to admit it, the more those "Deadpool" films lean into the craziness – they kind of prove there's not one way to approach a superhero, especially a superhero like Deadpool.
Would That OG Deadpool Actually Have Fit In?
Even if Deadpool didn't take out his other self? No chance those OG Deadpool characters would hang out together. We already saw the original "Deadpool" with "deadpool 2" - that version is pretty dark, and you have to respect that "don’t get a good job" vibe. But all the other Deadpools – they are funny and messed up in their own special way!
Maybe the movie should've given a little nod – "oh, we know about that guy, and we're definitely NOT him!". In the end, it’s just easier and funnier to kill off a past self when your universe is so messed up already, but this really made everyone want a “What If" situation where we see Deadpool team up with the “Weapon XI” version – it's definitely something I’d love to see.
So Many Cameos! What Happens With "Deadpool & Wolverine"?
"Deadpool & Wolverine" had over a hundred references. That's insane. We saw tons of superhero moments from other films and lots of wild characters came together. And now? That “Deadpool & Wolverine" ending – it's about the power of those multiple worlds! It shows Deadpool using his time-traveling ways to get himself into the "main" mcu! But, he failed this time. So who knows if he'll make it in for another visit?
But let's be real! The Movies are going in some totally wild, unpredictable directions. And it is kind of obvious how this movie franchise just wants to make audiences laugh! ryan reynolds has brought back his crazy Deadpool personality to that franchise, showing us how humor, chaos, and that "Deadpool" flavor is really resonating with everyone. Maybe this will be another big turning point for Deadpool, especially if we see how things are unfolding now in the MCU.
The Evolution of Deadpool, and "Deadpool & Wolverine"
"Deadpool" really did make a big jump with that new movie – that version of Deadpool just got more nuts and funnier. But you know what – it feels like a little respect was lost with that “Weapon XI” version of Deadpool! But those were pretty chaotic times. Maybe they needed that first Deadpool to pave the way. I guess what’s truly special about Deadpool – you know, even with those first bad movies – it seems like there’s always a fresh take to the superhero.
With the "Deadpool" movies being so unique, I guess we'll just have to see how these Deadpool Corp. shenanigans shake out next time around. Hopefully, we'll get a few more fun twists from Deadpool! Remember, we’re all looking forward to that mcu take-over!
