Darth Vader's Blue Lightsaber: More Than Just a Shiny Sword?
Is Darth Vader's Blue Lightsaber More Than Just A Legendary Weapon?
We know Anakin Skywalker became the menacing Darth Vader after a dark and fateful decision - but the true impact of Order 66 extends far beyond even Vader's actions. His blue lightsaber, passed down to the likes of Luke Skywalker, Rey, and others, is stained with a history that Star Wars hasn't really touched on.
Anakin's Lightsaber Was Used to Slaughter Innocent Younglings
- We all know Anakin killed the evil Count Dooku and took part in the destruction of the Jedi Order as the bad guys took over during Revenge of the Sith.
- That moment when Anakin slaughtered those young Jedi was heartbreaking! And it was that exact blue lightsaber he held when he was wielding his Star Wars lightsaber. Yikes!
- It's easy to forget, with all those amazing Jedi and clone troopers, but his lightsaber was actually involved in the most heinous crime during Order 66 - which involved Clone troopers carrying out a secret attack to wipe out all the Jedi, including the children. It's dark, but this whole Star Wars Order 66 legacy really is impactful!
- And there was a lot more killing and bloodshed to it, with the lightsaber being used to take down the Jedi Order, a huge chunk of Star Wars history.
It's More Than Just A Shiny Sword
- We've seen those lightsaber-wielding Jedi - including Luke Skywalker, Rey, and even Finn, hold the same lightsaber - it's almost magical, really. But when you think about what happened to those kids, you have to question things, right? It's almost unsettling that the saber has been held by these characters so lovingly in the face of the gruesome events it played a part in!
- This whole thing is an Order 66 legacy that Star Wars hasn't wanted to face. Yes, Anakin Skywalker is crucial to Star Wars, and we all love his awesome lightsaber, but it's tough to look past this kind of history.
So What About Rey?
- She's one of the main characters, so it makes sense we saw her using it a bunch. Even Rey - our favorite Jedi, with her amazing powers! In The Force Awakens, we see Rey actually have a whole bunch of visions that Star Wars doesn't fully explain, like a little sneak peek into Order 66, where she could see the dark events.
- Anakin Skywalker's lightsaber gets buried alongside Leia Organa's by Rey in The Rise of Skywalker! She buried them both on the Lars Farm, which was significant because Anakin's mother was buried there and that's the closest those two got to being buried together.
- Star Wars decided to leave out the brutal history with Anakin's lightsaber for Rey. But since the prequel trilogy was all about Star Wars Order 66, they have to give us some clues about this, too, don't they?
It's weird, but I guess we just have to trust Star Wars's decisions - though I really wish they'd be more open with that dark history! Maybe with this newest series coming out, we'll finally get to see Star Wars shed some light on what that saber has witnessed. Who knows - but it'll probably get us talking about it more, and get some Star Wars fans thinking!
