Can 'Alien: Romulus' Beat 'Prometheus' at the Box Office? Here's Why It Might Be Tough

Can Alien: Romulus Beat Prometheus At the Box Office?

Alien fans are totally hyped about Alien: Romulus. This movie is taking us back to the good old days with the scary space monsters that we love! But it might be tough for this reboot to beat one Box Office record!

What Makes Alien: Romulus Special?

  • This one looks like it's gonna bring back all the sci-fi horror we loved, and ditch all that extra sci-fi mumbo-jumbo they tried with Prometheus! We get a bunch of inexperienced space travelers stuck with those pesky Xenomorphs. They just want to grab some loot but get a terrifying adventure, instead.
  • They made this movie as a way to reset things back to those basic, tense, survival horror movies!

Can It Be a Blockbuster?

They are totally going for the big bucks and the Alien franchise usually rakes it in. But one thing about this reboot, the marketing has really focused on making it more of a horror movie. Prometheus, the Alien prequel that this new one might be trying to beat - was more like an epic sci-fi adventure - and it had this insane cast: Charlize Theron, Michael Fassbender, and Idris Elba. Those huge names definitely boosted that movie’s box office earnings!

So What's the Box Office Goal?

They've set their sights high, but Prometheus holds that crazy record! The original Prometheus had that big opening weekend and brought in over $51 million! And Alien: Romulus, the Alien Reboot, is hoping for about $30-$50 million. That's an amazing number for a mid-budget horror movie but Prometheus had a big budget so it made a ton of money! They have some pretty good numbers to beat. That said, the Alien franchise has been a massive hit in the past!

Can "Alien: Romulus" Do It?

  • They have been planning this reboot for a while! So it definitely makes sense that the movie could be huge. Remember Alien: Covenant, in 2017? Even though it had a lot of mixed reviews - it still raked in about $240 million. But let's be honest - Alien: Romulus will need something special! It might make more in those opening weekend numbers, but if we're looking at the full picture, it might be a lot harder!
  • So what about those Alien prequels like Alien Vs Predator? These made big numbers too - about $38 million. Those were totally exciting! But it was a long time ago and Alien: Romulus might have an even tougher fight!

It is super- exciting with the upcoming TV series - "Alien: Earth" coming out. Hopefully, the Alien franchise keeps going and there'll be a whole lot more awesome content coming to the movie theaters and to our TV screens. Who knows - Alien might be making a comeback for those of us who love this sci-fi horror!
