A Book as we generally know it is a structured way of presenting narratives and a physical medium used to hold knowledge, tell stories, or give information to its users. Recently we've had the honor of a peek into an individual experience using a book as a way of conveying these specific aspects of human storytelling.
Books over the ages have served as a primary source of information, an entertainment medium, and ways to express creativity or knowledge in a solid method. In our modern culture books are able to reach both paper lovers to those that prefer digital versions while showcasing how adaptable this medium has always been.
A book provides both fiction or non-fiction tales and also allows the author the opportunity to provide very deep levels of insight, analysis or even just to express an emotion. They provide different ways that writers can connect with Readers allowing people a method to not only educate themselves but understand unique life experiences.
"This Far" a memoir by Allison Holker is a newly released book that highlights a deeply personal experience. It explores Grief, love and loss along with other topics as Allison navigates all of the complexities after her husband’s passing. This unique entry creates conversation regarding grief and how individuals view information when released to a wide audience.
This book follows the journey of her love with Stephan "tWitch" Boss their challenges and even difficult experiences that have come about as she attempts to come to terms with everything that occurred during that time. Her narrative showcases vulnerability and also gives others the opportunity to connect in various shared forms of loss and confusion.
The book itself caused strong emotions as both friends, family and those that didn't have any personal relation voiced their opinions of what was made public in “This Far”. Many believe personal and intimate details do not belong for the public to view with claims of smear campaigns coming from family. It shows both positive support for the material and an opposing view that what was presented should not have been made public.
Public opinions had some feel Allison’s decision to openly discuss private details showed a “lack of class” and also was done with the intention of profiting from her own tragedy, and potentially tarnishing the name of her late husband. However many others supported what she shared with hopes it might help someone and create conversations that are hard to have in normal society.
While all other issues continue to circle with a large portion focused on the need to address and talk openly about mental health. “This Far” also provides unique ways to consider how it shows a need for compassion while also helping those struggling from the perspective of an individual who was personally touched by these type of issues.
There has been a big focus on whether all material released honors the memory of those lost, especially in public. This often forces writers to explore all sides of their story as to keep the subject’s image from being tarnished or in turn use this information in a positive manner which the author has set out to do in her own message.
“This Far” demonstrates how books can act as a catalyst for much needed conversations on a large scale platform and force awareness when it comes to complex issues surrounding a variety of topics, specifically including Grief and Addiction. A story that highlights very private and personal topics can inspire other people that have lived through similar moments or that may be experiencing current challenges to find support.
It became obvious with such a detailed book that Readers will have different interpretations of both the story being told as well as the author's intention. As a whole a work of literature will invite personal feelings as its message shifts for different audiences while connecting over some very common themes. This form of connection remains what makes them unique.
