Aloha, movie buffs! It's a 2015 movie that kinda came and went, but recently, people have started talking about this film – maybe because it's streaming on Netflix now.
Starring Emma Stone and Bradley Cooper? Talk about big names, it almost sounds like the set of some rom-com or action-comedy! This film has a solid group of famous faces: Rachel McAdams, John Krasinski, Bill Murray, Alec Baldwin, and more. And while Aloha was pretty divisive, that whole cast did have everyone talking.
Despite that lineup, things went sour quick, folks. Rotten Tomatoes gave the film only 20% on its rating, a little brutal for a movie with this much star power! A lot of the buzz is around the Emma Stone casting as an Asian American character! The story calls for a character with mixed Hawaiian and Chinese ancestry but Stone doesn't have those roots. This kind of "whitewashing" isn’t exactly rare, but people are taking more notice.
Cameron Crowe (the director) had a whole thing about a real-life inspiration with similar features, so he thought it would work out fine. It wasn’t that convincing for the audience, which makes sense!
Still, even though there’s all this Aloha controversy, this movie is like a family reunion. McAdams and Cooper reunite after "Wedding Crashers," Krasinski and Baldwin got together again since It’s Complicated. You even have Bill Murray and Danny McBride working together on a project. All these familiar faces made it a little more enjoyable for movie buffs, even if the plot needed work.
Since its 2015 release, it seems like this Aloha movie is becoming more relevant and popular in a way, with a good bunch of the actors from this ensemble cast growing their careers and success!
