Monster Mash-Up

Usually, werewolves and vampires hang out in their own separate horror worlds. But, Universal Pictures had some other ideas way back in the 1940s. They decided to bring all the best monsters together into their awesome horror flicks! These crossover movies, became huge hits and fans loved it, particularly when films like Frankenstein Meets the Wolf Man, House of Frankenstein, and House of Dracula were released!

Those earlier films featured Dracula and the super famous Wolf Man, Larry Talbot. While it's awesome to see them together! There was a big missed opportunity back then! They never actually had a huge showdown, a head-to-head Monster Fight! This mistake didn't get repeated though when Abbott & Costello Meet Frankenstein came around.

It is one thing to have an awesome clash between two legendary monsters. However, what is more interesting, is the cast that was involved in the creation of Abbott & Costello Meet Frankenstein and made the fight legendary! Lon Chaney Jr. played the memorable Wolf Man, but the comedic aspect from this classic came with Bud Abbott and Lou Costello who ended up meeting some iconic monsters!

This scene in the movie featured Dracula and Frankenstein's monster, showing how these two icons of horror and classic monsters from Universal Pictures really clash! What made this even more amazing, is the brief, super awesome moment. Larry Talbot transforms to the Wolf Man and they begin to have an epic, unforgettable fight!

If you want a really compelling backstory on this Dracula vs. Wolf Man fight! What you might not realize, is that it almost came about in an entirely different way! Universal had planned for "Wolf Man vs. Dracula" back in 1945 and planned a large-budget technicolor release. There were plans and it would feature Dracula and Wolf Man.

There was an earlier version, House of Frankenstein but the movie did such a great job! Universal really wanted to follow it up, that it started planning House of Dracula as a technicolor movie!

However, the plans were changed! While they could have featured both the Wolf Man and Dracula, what was truly a shame is that this idea never materialized. There were many other revisions to the plot as Frankenstein's Monster got added!

This was not a huge let down for fans, it may have only changed things a bit and made it even more memorable.
