28 Years Later: A Long-Awaited Trip back to the Zombie Apocalypse
Alex Garland and Danny Boyle are returning to the universe of 28 Days Later with much awaited sequel 28 Years Later. Set to be the third movie in the series, it will examine the effects of the zombie virus breakout 28 years after the events of the first one. Released in 2002, the first 28 Days Later helped ignite the 2000s' zombie frenzy. Featuring faster, meaner, and more terrifying walkers, the movie, which centers on a bicycle courier named Jim (Cillian Murphy) waking from a coma to see London besieged by a zombie virus broke from conventional zombie clichés. The popularity of 28 Days Later inspired a follow-up, 28 Weeks Later, in 2007, carrying on the post-apocalyptic tale. Boyle and Garland, who are looking to provide the franchise a fresh degree of fear, will be returning in the next movie, though.

28 Years Later: Narrative Elements
Although the narrative of 28 Years Later is still unknown, the title implies a major time leap which lets the movie investigate the long-term consequences of the virus epidemic. Although a 28 Month Later script had been first developed, Alex Garland and Danny Boyle appear to be approaching 28 Years Later differently. With its implication that the infected had been exterminated, 28 Days Later's denouement presented a sliver of optimism. But the follow-up, 28 Weeks Later, showed that the infection had resurfaced and threw London into anarchy. 28 Weeks Later finds survivors fleeing to Paris only to discover the city overrun by infected. Though it is likely that 28 Years Later will revisit the virus, it is yet unknown whether society will try to rebuild just to see the virus resurfaced or if the planet will be a barren wasteland.
