Movies News Talk
Ever feel like you just want a break from all the serious mutant drama in the X-Men Movies? Let's face it, those storylines got pretty intense, right? But Fox really did a great job of sneaking in some hilarious moments that really brightened up even the most stressful fight scenes. The best part is, you don't have to be a diehard comic book fan to understand these funny bits! Even if you never read the X-men comics, these scenes still crack you up, and remind us why the X-Men were more than just these superpowered folks fighting injustice - they were humans (with super-powers, of course!), going through pretty crazy stuff. We were seeing superheroes struggling to adapt, to deal with the craziness, to live a "normal" life... in the middle of mutant madness. And in those "normal" moments, well, sometimes things got hilariously awkward!
Honestly, since Deadpool joined the party (and you gotta give Ryan Reynolds mad props, he really nailed that wacky side), everyone started seeing a little more lightheartedness in the mutant world! And for fans who grew up reading the X-men comics, we kinda knew that these heroes weren't always stoic. They were funny, quirky, and even a bit messed up, which made the X-Men franchise even better! So we were definitely grateful for Fox's creative direction in weaving those humorous moments into the franchise!
Where to even begin?! There's that scene from the first X-Men movie where Storm tells everyone about the "fate" of a toad struck by lightning... totally hilarious but cringy at the same time. It was hilarious for the wrong reasons, but somehow that made it even better! It's those super awkward moments that kinda poke fun at all the seriousness of superhero Movies! Who knew Storm's power over the weather had such a sense of humor, right? Then you've got Wolverine’s scene in The Wolverine. He's interviewing this big-shot government guy and giving him, get this, ten words or less! Oh man, Wolverine, and his one-liner quips, can't beat that.
We can't forget those times when Cyclops is stuck listening to NSYNC’s “Bye Bye Bye” – seriously, that dude loves boy bands. He's so much more than just a dude with laser beams! Imagine being all serious, battling for world domination, and then you hear those cheesy boy band tunes. It's just enough to show that even those serious mutants are still into pop culture, and, man, was that ever an awesome crossover! Remember, those same tunes found their way into the new Deadpool & Wolverine, so who knows what's next for this classic song in the X-Men universe.
The "X-Force" moment from Deadpool 2 has to be one of the most iconic ones. Picture it, a group of X-Men flying into battle in their “coolest” skydiving sequence. And then the wind shows up, just totally screwing up the whole mission! I've never seen anyone have a supervillain "death" by falling victim to nature before, but those "X-Force" members died doing something incredibly embarrassing – kinda ironic, considering their ultimate goal. It's a wild ride of an epic scene! We see a few iconic "X-Force" heroes making their big screen debut! This also really puts Ryan Reynold’s comedic brilliance on display! We’re not surprised that he made Deadpool so beloved in the X-Men Universe – seriously, the man is a comedy genius! It’s just the perfect mix of supervillainy and absurdity. He’s basically got the whole superhero-comedy genre down pat.
Now with Deadpool’s hilariousness front and center, it really sets up an exciting era for the next round of Marvel Studios' mutant movies. I mean, we can totally see those comedic scenes showing up when the X-Men come back in the MCU! The characters already have the whole superhero, dramatic vibe, but the whole, 'humans' dealing with extreme circumstances', side makes the movie really engaging.
There are loads of hilarious bits in Fox's X-Men movie saga. Those times when Deadpool had us rolling from a few off-color jokes to some really brilliant movie parodies? There’s the elevator moment, when Wade just breaks out his best one-liner comedy with the "five guys on a high protein diet". That made the scene. If we were stuck in an elevator, a whole "high-protein" situation wouldn't make it any better! And then, the lovebirds, Wade Wilson and Vanessa Carlyle, show off their “normal-human” lifestyle for a sweet few minutes. I know I'm going to love watching these scenes over and over.
This whole list just scratches the surface. We’re talking hilarious times, like that scene where the mutants at Eden (in Logan) get a little too adventurous with their new found friend's beard - poor Logan! Who knew that Logan was more concerned with his beard’s state of repair than trying to save the world? This also gave us one of the best Quicksilver scenes in the whole X-Men series. Remember that part when he uses his superspeed in "Days of Future Past"? It's one of the most heart-pumping scenes I’ve seen, with Quicksilver zipping around like a bat outta hell and dodging bullets while saving everyone - except for Havok, who, honestly, you can’t blame him. You got to laugh at the whole situation, right?
There’s no telling how the MCU’s X-Men are going to play out. They already brought Deadpool into the MCU (who I'm totally sure will continue his legacy of crazy humor), but who else is coming back to grace our screens? Is this the moment we finally get to see Cyclops and those boys bands in an official capacity?! There’s plenty of fodder for Hilarious Scenes! Hopefully, these awesome X-Men films have prepared us for some exciting things in the future, as the mutant world is getting rebooted, and with a ton of stories coming back and new twists on the superhero universe we’ll be waiting for this to unfold on our screens.
