Directors of Batgirl Film Comment on the Shelving of Coyote Vs. Acme by Warner Bros.
Directors of the aborted Batgirl picture Adil El Arbi and Bilall Fallah have responded to Warner Bros. dropping Coyote Vs. Acme. Originally scheduled to premiere on Max in 2022, Warner Bros. shocked the whole business by deciding to shelved the almost finished picture alongside the animated film Scoob! Holiday Haunt. Warner Bros. followed suit in November 2023 by dropping the live-action/animated hybrid feature Coyote Vs. Acme; yet, Warner Bros. has apparently switched course multiple times since and is currently trying to sell the movie to possible buyers.
While revealing that the pair are friends with Coyote Vs. Acme director Dave Green, El Arbi said in a recent interview with Screen Rant on the red carpet for the debut of Bad Boys: Ride or Die, they were asked about the growing practice of cancelling already completed films. Movies are designed to be viewed, El Arbi said. View his whole comments below:
Will Audiences Ever See Batgirl or Coyote Vs. Acme?
Though there is still hope that viewers will be able to see Coyote Vs. Acme at this point, it remains to be seen if it can avoid the same destiny as Batgirl.
Given how near both Batgirl and Coyote Vs. Acme were to premiering, Warner Bros.' choice to shelve films like Batgirl and Coyote Vs. Acme is odd even if Hollywood experts are used to seeing prospective projects shelved before cameras even have a chance to roll. To further muddle the picture, the buzz about Coyote Vs. Acme sometimes likened it to the venerable 1988 hit Who Framed Roger Rabbit. Later sources reportedly indicated that Paramount, Netflix, and Amazon were all eager to seize control of the distribution rights for the movie.
The DCEU's Comprehensive Background
Notwithstanding all of this, though, Warner Bros. was still actively looking for potential buyers for Coyote Vs. Acme in April, according a report, and claims that it was formally canceled in lieu of a $35–40 million tax write-down were untrue. Batgirl appears to have been clearly placed on hold, though, since present DC Studios co-CEO Peter Safran notes the film was "not releasable." Safran claimed that since the movie was "designed for the small screen," its release might have harmed the DC brand and prevented it from being able to compete in theatres.
Over the years, the DCEU has seen plenty of ups and downs including some announced but never realized initiatives.
The Situation of the Movie
Though it's unclear whether Coyote Vs. Acme will be able to evade the same destiny as Batgirl, there is still some optimism that viewers will be able to witness it. Ultimately, ideally a potential buyer will at last pay Warner Bros. the money they are looking for and let the viewing audience decide on the final result, particularly given the Coyote Vs. Acme cast comprises John Cena and Will Forte.

Hollywood: Fresh Problems for the Sector
Indeed, it is sad and a cause of extra concern for those living in Hollywood. I believe that everyone of us is a creative person. Dave Green is our buddy; he is our man. We hope he will eventually make a film. Viewers should, in my perspective, be the ones to see Movies and assess them.
Though there is still some optimism that viewers will have an opportunity to witness Coyote Vs. Acme, it remains to be seen whether it will be able to escape the same fate as Batgirl.
