Star Wars: From Legends to Canon - A Blast from the Past
Remember back when Star Wars was just a trilogy of Movies, and the only way to see more adventures was to pick up those awesome books? That’s where "Legends" comes in! But in 2014, the "Expanded Universe" became "Legends" as Disney brought the franchise back into the limelight, and that led to some big changes. It was kinda a shock when all these crazy stories from the past, all these cool aliens, weapons, and storylines... they weren’t officially part of the timeline anymore.
Even with all the cool new films, TV shows, and comics in the new “Canon,” some of those "Legends" ideas have snuck their way back into the modern Star Wars! So get ready for a blast from the past as we check out 10 of the greatest stories and characters that have made it from Legends into Canon!
Thrawn's Comeback
You’ve gotta know “Thrawn”, the military genius from Legends, right? And if you watched “Ahsoka”, well, you've already seen how that super smart, strategist is back! In “Star Wars Rebels”, Thrawn kinda disappeared into the depths of space, but then he reemerged in Ahsoka, now ready to rule again, which mirrors how the dude returned to the galaxy in “Thrawn” novels too. I bet everyone's really hyped for Thrawn to get those plans in motion once more, even if we don't know how it'll end up in canon.
It's so awesome that this series is pulling on all those classic story threads – it feels more interconnected, you know? You could always read those awesome Legends books to get your Star Wars fix – it's kind of like a side adventure with the cool new “Canon” stories.
A World Of Doom – Malachor!
Let’s get to “Malachor”, the Sith world that plays a major part in “Star Wars: Rebels” and is also in “Knights of the Old Republic”! This super cool world in the "Legends" stories is so cool because it has its own dramatic past, with major battles that shaped the galaxy! And those characters? You won't believe the chaos and powerful force. But here’s the thing about “Legends” and the new "Canon"... both share the same concept of this epic planet, even if they have different details! They both had an epic showdown that almost caused major destruction for all. That planet is a real game-changer!
Think of “Malachor” like the “Go To” location for crazy Sith action – there’s power everywhere! It really is an example of how even after those Legends books were set aside for new storylines, the “Canon” story writers can pull from all those classic stories.
The Solo Twins' Story?
Oh man, remember “Legends”, those days where Han Solo and Princess Leia actually had twin kids: Jacen and Jaina? They were super involved in the New Republic era, taking those epic Jedi adventures on board, but... just like their older brother, Anakin (and those other Solo offspring we know), one of them got tempted by the Dark Side!
In the "Canon", Han and Leia only have Ben Solo. It’s kind of like a twisted family drama — even though there are only a couple of stories in “Canon” so far it’s a mirrored theme! It’s pretty clear the creators were influenced by those "Legends" stories!
Luke Skywalker’s Academy? The Jedi Master Is Always Building!
It’s hard to think that Luke, even when the galaxy needed him the most, was ready to just kick back on a planet and chill. But, as soon as we get a glimpse into “The Book of Boba Fett,” it looks like Luke was still busy being an awesome Jedi, teaching all his skills.
This idea isn't new; it's another one from “Legends”! Back then, Luke's Academy was built on the Yavin moon, but the “Canon” puts it on Ossus - another super cool world for Jedi fans. The “Canon” and "Legends" versions also both see their fair share of “evil turning bad,” and both of those academies have their share of exciting stories. That’s the beauty of Star Wars, man - there are always more stories, twists, and new adventures waiting in the future!
The Zombie Troopers - Legends’ Creepiest Idea Gets Its Moment
There’s one thing you have to know about "Legends" — it’s always about making stories crazier and more unique, and when “Death Troopers” came around it totally blew everyone’s minds! This book introduced those creepy, bio-engineered zombie stormtroopers who weren't just normal stormtroopers. They had been infected by the Emperor to become a bunch of killing machines!
And “Ahsoka”? We got those “Night Troopers”, those revived soldiers – a different type of scary story than the "Legends" zombie troopers but kinda a different version of the same awesome theme!
Who Runs the Galaxy: New Republics (and how They Get Destroyed)!
It doesn’t take a Jedi to tell you that “Legends” is full of galactic powers! It’s really a case of how a New Republic gets formed to stop those Sith guys – but that doesn’t always mean peace! And the same idea gets a new spin in “Canon.” Both versions end up facing a dark, new galactic threat – but with different villains.
“Legends” shows us a bunch of crazy creatures – The Yuuzhan Vong — that crash into the New Republic. The “Canon”, with the rise of the First Order, makes those galaxy-spanning stories all a bit different! But that’s what makes “Legends” and the “Canon” stories exciting — those massive battles, those heroes with the powers we didn't expect! It’s always amazing to see the different ways those new and classic storylines work out.
The Star Wars Expanded Universe - a Journey of Epic Proportions
We still have some questions – who’s right? Is “Canon” the “right” version of the story? Or does it just have more stuff than we knew before in "Legends"?. I think it's fair to say, there’s room for both kinds of storytelling in the Star Wars Universe! If you want a deeper dive into those “Legends” stories – jump into the books or comics. They have a world of their own with some amazing, exciting, and heartbreaking moments. So even if you love those “Canon” stories – there's something for everyone in this epic universe! So get ready to immerse yourself in that far, far, away galaxy and embrace all those wild and fantastic Star Wars stories!
