Pyro's comeback in Deadpool & Wolverine: New Suit, powers, and more
Aaron Stanford, who reprises his role as Pyro in the forthcoming Marvel Cinematic Universe film, Deadpool & Wolverine, revealed specifics on the character's development including a new superhero suit and possible power enhancements in a recent interview with Screen Rant.
Pyro's New Superhero Costume: Honors Ultimate X-Men
Stanford expressed his delight at at last finding Pyro with a suitable superhero costume, pointing out that the character was frequently seen in pajamas or casual wear in earlier X-Men movies. Inspired by the Ultimate X-men run, Pyro's burned look in the comics is reflected in his new costume, which has a utilitarian design including firefighter-like snaps.
"You're absolutely right; Pyro never had a proper superhero costume like that," Stanford said. "One of my source points from the X-men Movies is that, originally in X2, there's a big scene where this SWAT team invades Professor Xavier's School for Gifted Mutants, and they're raiding the school at night with automatic weapons and laser pointer-like scopes on them and all the kids have to run. I'm therefore in my pajamas, just running about in my jammies, half the movie. We then headed to a house where I could replace my regular clothes with something else, and the outfit they selected to put Pyro in was sweatpants and a T-shirt. I then progressed to X3 after starting from jammies and loungewear and blowing up all the cop cars. It was more like an outfit from Hot Topic than a proper superhero one; it wasn't exactly the real thing.
"They thus showed me what it would be like when I went for the fitting. I exclaimed with delight. It relates to a particular [run]. It's mostly influenced by this one particular run—the Ultimate X-men run—and this different form of Pyro. In this rendition of the comic book, he has used all of his powers; his face is horribly burnt. He burned himself at the end and is wearing this kind of firefighter gear. That's the atmosphere, and it was a great look; eventually, that's what they decided upon. They had like the firefighter snaps on it and everything, and it was like utilitarian. Thus, putting it on, I felt like, "Alright, I'm finally a proper superhero here!"
Potential Power Upgrades for Pyro in Deadpool & Wolverine
The remarks made by Stanford also imply possible power enhancements for Pyro, who has always been renowned for his pyrokinetic prowess. The Ultimate X-Men comics' references to Pyro's burned look imply that his powers could have changed significantly. Whether these developments improve his current skills or bring fresh ones remains to be seen, but they surely give his comeback in Deadpool & Wolverine an interesting layer of expectation.
The Development of Superhero Movies
Stanford's experience going back to the X-Men series following almost two decades also mirrors the change in superhero movies since the 2000s. He contrasted the original X-Men movies with Deadpool & Wolverine's heightened scale and commitment to practical sets and locations.
Real-world Sets & Locations in Deadpool & Wolverine
Though Stanford noted the major developments in film technology since the first X-Men movies, he was especially impressed with Shawn Levy's dedication to using actual sites and sets for Deadpool & Wolverine. The actor said he valued the chance to work on large sets that let him really enter the world of the movie.
"We would visit these sets, and the cool thing about Deadpool was, at least for the stuff I was involved in, there wasn't a ton of green screen," Stanford remarked. "You feel like you're there even if there was a 'element' of green screen since the Deadpool & Wolverine team was building out these enormous, massive sets!"
Stanford also related his experience on the wasteland set, noting that it seemed as though he was entering another planet. Suggesting a possibly immersive and exciting cinematic experience for viewers, the film's commitment to realistic sets and locations offers a refreshing substitute for too CGI-heavy superhero movies.
Deadpool & Wolverine: A much awaited release
Featuring an amazing cast and a mix of action, comedy, and heart, Deadpool & Wolverine promises to be an exciting and funny ride, the third installment in the Deadpool series. Marvel fans should not miss the much awaited premiere of the movie, which has even more to offer with Pyro's comeback.
