Day One, June 28, 2024—A Quiet Place
Day One is a spin-off of the A Quiet Place series developed under John Krasinski. Before the events of the first film, Lupita Nyong'O leads the cast, directed by Michael Sarnoski; the movie is set at the beginning of the invasion as humanity struggles to live.
A Quiet Place: Day One marks the third installment of the series set for 2024. Set on the first day the alien monsters start tormented humanity, the apocalyptic horror picture serves as a prelude to the first two releases. This time John Krasinski is replaced by Pig director Michael Sarnoski behind the camera. While Djimon Hounsou returns following his performance in A Quiet Place Part II, Day One's cast consists of almost entirely new performers headed by Lupita Nyong'o, Stranger Things' Joseph Quinn, and Alex Wolff.
MaXXXine, July 5, 2024
With the premiere of MaXXXine in 2024 Ti West's horror film series makes a comeback. Following Mia Goth's Maxine as she tries to be an actor in Los Angeles in the 1980s, the third X film series episode picks up after the events of X. The general praise X and Pearl got helps MaXXXine stack her cast.
Aside from Goth, the slasher has appearances by Michelle Monaghan, Elizabeth Debicki, Giancarlo Esposito, Lily Collins, Kevin Bacon, Bobby Cannavale, and singer Halsey. On July 5, 2024 A24 will premiere MaXXXine in theatres. MaXXXine marks the last installment of Ti West's X film series.
Longlegs on July 12, 2024
Writer-director Osgood Perkins created the horror movie Longlegs. Assigned to a serial murderer cold case, FBI agent Lee Harker sets off a rabbit hole filled with unsettling revelations with the occult at the core of all. The trail of evidence points to a personal link, so it becomes a race against time to stop another murder.
Longlegs marks Nicolas Cage's continuing journey through horror films beyond 2024. Director Osgood "Oz" Perkins' forthcoming thriller (Gretel & Hansel) stars fellow horror movie regular Maika Monroe (It Follows). Monroe will portray FBI Agent Lee Parker as she works to solve an unresolved serial killer case to which she has particular ties. Other Longlegs cast members include Alicia Witt and Blair Underwood; Cage plays the elusive serial killer.
Trap date: August 9, 2024
Trap is a movie directed by M. a writer-director. Night Shyamalan worked under Blinding Edge Pictures. The movie is a part of a contract Warner Bros signed for him to oversee and produce many movies under their license.
Apart from guiding his daughter's first feature, M. Night Shyamalan is directing Trap, his own film set for August 2, 2024. Other than a hint that Trap is a psychological thriller set at a concert, there is not much known about her future. In light of M's past. Viewers of Night Shyamalan's films already anticipate a twist to develop at some point in the plot. Though Josh Hartnett is supposedly attached to star in the movie, Warner Bros. has not yet confirmed Trap's cast.
Alien: Romulus August 16, 2024
Romulus comes in as the eighth movie in the Alien series. Fede Álvarez is the director of the film, which will center a fresh youthful group of people confronting the horrific Xenomorphs. Romulus is a stand-alone movie and sets in a period not yet covered in the Alien series.
With Alien: Romulus, the Alien series makes returns unlike any other. Though it is set in the same universe as the previous films, the seventh live-action sequel does not explicitly relate to them using returning characters. Romulus stars Cailee Spaeny (Bad Times at the El Royale) and Isabela Merced (Transformers: The Last Knight), and comes from filmmaker Fede Álvarez. The science fiction horror movie centers on teenage space colonizers who discover a horrible life form in a run-down space station. Alien: Romulus's chronology is quite perplexing, but it takes place twenty years following the first 1979 film.
August 23, 2024: The Crow
The Crow (2024) reinterpreted the original graphic novel darkly and grittingly. It centers Eric, who rises from the grave to exact revenge for the horrific killings of his soul mate. Equipped with superhuman talents, Eric navigates a corrupt metropolis as much a character as he is, seeking retribution against the killers accountable. This adaptation brings fresh ideas to enthrall the modern viewers.
2024 will bring at last the arduous journey to acquire a fresh adaptation of The Crow materializing. Director Rupert Sanders (Foundation, Ghost in the Shell) offers the most recent interpretation, in which Bill Skarsgård fills in for Eric Draven, first played by Brandon Lee in the 1994 film. Now joined by Jenna Ortega in a new part, the sequel brings Michael Keaton back as the funny and sleazy ghost with selfish motivations.
Thanks to the much awaited publication of Beetlejuice Beetlejuice, a sequel to the original 1988 movie, Beetlejuice returns in 2024. With Michael Keaton reprising his title character, Tim Burton returns to film the horror comedy—which has been in development for more than thirty years. Beetlejuice Beetlejuice's cast also includes the return of Winona Ryder and Catherine O'Hara, while Jenna Ortega headlines the new additions, which also includes Monica Belluci, Willem Dafoe, and Justin Theroux. Warner Bros. plans a September 6, 2024, release date.
Speak No Evil — September 13, 2024
The horror films of 2024 feature an American adaptation of the Danish film Speak No Evil from 2022. The upcoming psychological horror film comes from director James Watkins (Black Mirror's "Shut Up and Dance") and tells the story of a weekend country trip with a family that turns from a vacation into a nightmare.
The cast of Speak No Evil includes James McAvoy, Mackenzie Davis, and Scott McNairy in the lead roles. The remake is expected to be released in theaters on September 13, 2024.
Never Let Go — September 27, 2024
Halle Berry is set to star in a new horror movie Never Let Go in 2024. It comes from experienced horror director Alexandre Aja, who helmed The Hills Have Eyes, Crawl, and Oxygen. Berry headlines Never Let Go, which centers around a family tormented by an evil spirit as their lives become more dangerous when one of the kids questions if the evil is real.
Aside from Halle Berry, the confirmed Never Let Go cast members include Percy Daggs IV and Anthony B. Jenkins.
Terrifier 3 — October 11, 2024
Terrifier 3 is the third film in Damien Leone's ultra-violent horror series starring David Howard Thornton as Art the Clown. The third film is set during Christmas time, with Art unleashing his reign of terror on Miles County citizens on Christmas Eve. Lauren LaVera returns as Sienna, along with Damien Leone as director and writer.
The Terrifier franchise returns in 2024 with Terrifier 3, marking the return of Art the Clown. Story details have yet to be revealed but franchise director Damien Leone is back behind the camera, and Samantha Scaffidi as Victoria Heyes will return in a more prominent role in the third film. Terrifier 3's other confirmed cast members are David Howard Thornton as Art, Chris Jericho as Burke, Elliot Fullam as Jonathan Shaw, and Lauren LaVera returns as Sienna after Terrifier 2. The third installment in the franchise will have a theatrical release in October 2024, timed perfectly for the Halloween season.
Smile 2 — October 18, 2024
Smile 2 is the sequel to the 2022 psychological horror film by director Parker Finn that centers on a therapist who witnesses a patient's suicide, leading to a series of terrifying supernatural events. The sequel will see the return of Finn as director, with Paramount continuing distribution.
Following the first movie's release in 2022, the Smile franchise returns two years later with a sequel in October 2024. Smile 2's story is not yet confirmed, but the cast includes Kyle Gallner as Joel, Naomi Scott, Lukas Gage, Rosemarie DeWitt, Dylan Gelula, Raúl Castillo, and Miles Gutierrez-Riley. The hope is that Marti Matulis will return as The Smile Monstrosity, but his involvement hasn't been confirmed. Parker Finn returns to direct and write the sequel, which was filmed from January to March 2024 in Hudson Valley, New York.
Heretic — November 15, 2024
Scott Beck and Bryan Woods return to the horror genre in 2024 with Heretic. The writers of A Quiet Place, who shifted to sci-fi with 2023's dinosaur movie 65, are back with a new movie. Heretic is reportedly about two religious women who become the focus of a strange man's games. The movie is set to star Yellowjackets' Sophie Thatcher and The Fabelman's Chloe East as the two girls with Hugh Grant playing the creepy older man.
Heretic was granted an interim agreement to continue production during the SAG-AFTRA strike in 2023.
Nosferatu — December 25, 2024
Nosferatu is a remake of the 1922 silent film of the same name from director F. W. Murnau. Robert Eggers is crafting his own version of the story for the reboot as writer and director, with Bill Skarsgård stepping into the shoes of Count Orlok. Nosferatu tells the tale of a young woman who falls victim to a vampire utterly infatuated with her.
Robert Eggers' Nosferatu reimagining is arriving in 2024 to give horror movie audiences a fresh look at an iconic story. Lily-Rose Depp stars as a young woman named Ellen who becomes the target of the ancient vampire's stalking in the film, while the titular vampire is played by Bill Skarsgård. Nosferatu's cast is incredibly exciting, thanks to the appearances of Willem Dafoe, Aaron Taylor-Johnson, Nicholas Hoult, Emma Corrin, and Ralph Ineson. Focus Features has confirmed plans to release Nosferatu on Christmas Day 2024.
Adrift — TBD 2024
Audiences might also be treated to a horror movie from Darren Aronofsky and Jared Leto in 2024. Adrift has been in development for years and is the second movie Aronofsky and Leto have worked on together after Requiem for a Dream. The horror film is described as a supernatural ghost story set aboard a ship. It is an adaptation of a short story by Koji Suzuki, and the Jared Leto-led movie is set to be produced by horror studio Blumhouse. Production was expected to begin in 2023, making a 2024 release date for Adrift possible.
Audiences will have to keep a close eye on updates in regards to Adrift. Fans have high expectations for this film as both Leto and Aronofsky are known for their impressive work in the horror genre.
Dust Bunny — TBD 2024
One of 2024's Horror Movies features a Hannibal reunion of sorts. Bryan Fuller, who developed Hannibal, worked on Dust Bunny, which stars Mads Mikkelsen, who played Dr. Hannibal Lecter in the NBC series. The horror thriller movie follows a young girl who asks her neighbor to help her kill a monster under her bed after she thinks it has eaten her family.
Aside from Mikkelsen, the cast of Dust Bunny includes Sigourney Weaver and David Dastmalchian. Dust Bunny was one of the few productions to be granted an interim agreement to continue filming through the SAG-AFTRA strike in 2023.
Faces of Death — TBD 2024
The upcoming horror film Faces of Death comes from director Daniel Goldhaber. After making his directorial debut with Cam in 2018, Goldhaber received excellent reviews for 2022's crime thriller How to Blow Up a Pipeline. 2024 is expected to be Goldhaber's return to horror as Faces of Death's story follows a woman who discovers violent videos that recreate death scenes from movies online.
Faces of Death, which doesn't have a release date yet, is a remake of the 1978 movie by the same name. Faces of Death stars Euphoria's Barbie Ferreira, Stranger Things' Dacre Montgomery, Saved by the Bell's Josie Totah, singer Charli XCX, and The Blackening's Jermaine Fowler.
The One — TBD 2024
Melissa Barrera's horror movie dominance will continue with another project in 2024 known as The One. The film, directed by Jaki Bradley, follows Barrera's Taylor as she becomes a contestant on a reality TV dating show. Taylor's experience takes a turn as she gets down to the final three and is terrified of not finding love.
The One also stars Nicholas Hoult as the dating show's leading man, while Lana Condor (To All The Boys I've Loved Before) plays one of the other girls Taylor competes with.
Return to Silent Hill — TBD 2024
A new Silent Hill movie arrives for the first time in over a decade in 2024 thanks to Return to Silent Hill. Based on the popular video game franchise, specifically Silent Hill 2, the story of Return to Silent Hill follows James Sunderland (Jeremy Irvine) returning to the town in search of his lost love after receiving a mysterious letter.
Hannah Emily Anderson (Jigsaw) stars alongside Irvine as James' lost love interest. Return to Silent Hill arrives in theaters in 2024. Return to Silent Hill serves as a reboot and the third installment in the Silent Hill film series.
Salem's Lot — TBD 2024
A Salem's Lot remake has been expected for a few years but remains unreleased. Salem's Lot's cast includes Spencer Treat Clark, Lewis Pullman, Pilou Asbaek, Alfre Woodard, Bill Camp, and others. The new take on Stephen King's 1975 novel comes from director Gary Dauberman (Annabelle Comes Home). It previously had release dates slated for 2022 and 2023, but New Line eventually pulled it from its schedule. However, the good news is that Salem's Lot is now confirmed to premiere in 2024.
Salem's Lot is a 2024 remake of the movie of the same name released in 1979. The latest adaptation of Stephen King's 1975 novel stars Lewis Pullman, Makenzie Leigh, and Bill Camp, with Gary Dauberman writing and directing the Max original film. The plot revolves around a writer who discovers a vampire in his hometown of Jerusalem’s Lot upon returning home for inspiration.
