Deadpool's Wild Ride Through X-Men and the MCU
Hey, fans! It's been a wild ride for Deadpool ever since he showed up as Wade Wilson in 2009's "X-Men Origins: Wolverine"! From those early days to his epic MCU debut in "Deadpool & Wolverine", it's time to break down the Merc with a Mouth's timeline of mayhem! So grab a chimichanga and let's get into it!
You probably remember those awkward moments before 2016! Remember when everyone was making those memes and laughing at "Origins: Wolverine", where he was basically just a dude in a bad costume with even worse superpowers? You can definitely say, Ryan Reynolds turned his experience with Fox into one of the best stories about superhero-film making! When Deadpool came out, everyone loved the film and we loved seeing that fourth-wall-breaking, sarcasm-loving character brought to life! And yeah, he was definitely more comic accurate this time! And those box office records for R-rated Movies? Yep! Then came the huge acquisition, when Disney bought up Fox, bringing Wade into the MCU!
Wade Wilson's (Messy) Beginnings and Origins: From X-Men Origins to Weapon XI
Wade Wilson, the ultimate fan-favorite mercenary, got the full "mutant makeover" with Fox in a series of intense adventures! First, "Origins: Wolverine", which kind of botched the character. He was part of "Team X" before ending up a lab experiment as "Weapon XI" that mixed him with other mutants and turned him into a terrifying force, and yeah, they basically took off his head, but it's a comic book - so you can always bounce back from death in this universe. The Movies didn't quite stick to what the comic creators made though. And in those earlier films, the "fourth wall breaking", that Deadpool's known for? Totally missing!
Those "Origins" moments became part of what makes Deadpool's story so engaging. He actually goes back in time and, to say it bluntly, takes out his own version! "Die, baby Deadpool! We don't have the budget for this!" It’s hilarious and awesome, that wild journey makes Deadpool's saga in those "Fox" films that much better because we can see where they went wrong with "Origins". We might never get "Origins: Wolverine" with those early Deadpool ideas, so he just took care of those blunders on his own, and took control of the story!
The Time-Jumping Merc: A Timeline of Deadpool Adventures
So, after that whole Weapon XI/Origins mess, we jump ahead a bit to a newer version of Wade Wilson. In this world, Wade was a military guy, kind of tough and scrappy - you could definitely say he'd been through the wars, even if he never fought as Deadpool, not yet! He fell in love with Vanessa Carlyle and they lived happily until…well, life threw a big curveball: cancer. In classic Deadpool fashion, the bad news came right when Wade got down on one knee!
That whole "I need a cure" scene? It's the defining moment. It leads him to a mysterious "recruiter" and a super-intense process that makes him a mutant. And as you might expect, this didn't happen quite the same way in the comic books. But hey, "X-Men: Days of Future Past", those changes and alternate universes are super common these days!
Deadpool vs. The World - It's Not a Pretty Fight
So Wade is a mutant now, and he doesn’t like his new looks so he's going on a mission to find his torturer (who is basically a real nasty villain who likes torturing people into becoming superpowered freaks). But then comes the meeting that everyone loved — Wade's first real battle, the fight that started Deadpool's fame! The fight with Ajax that made his scars "permanent"?! I think every Marvel fan remembers how awesome it was.
The "bad guys" are still pretty prominent in his life, but, thankfully, we do see the epic return of his beloved Vanessa! He doesn’t forget the people who were good to him; it's the same for Vanessa and Weasel, even when things get crazy and super-villainous!
X-Force, Cable, Juggernaut, and Deadpool's Epic Fight!
Then there's the crazy turn that gets those villains really pumped to destroy Wade, resulting in, you guessed it, the death of Vanessa. He's heartbroken, he wants to die, but the mutant healing factor won't let him!
Now's when we see the big stuff, including that meeting with Colossus from the X-Men and a run-in with Cable who is from the future and kind of obsessed with killing a guy who hasn't done anything bad (yet)! There's even an "X-Force" moment, but like always, things get intense, with lots of deaths and those fourth-wall-breaking moments we know and love, just to keep us on the edge of our seats! We know what happens next: "The bad guy" from "the future", is convinced that Wade has to die, but wait for it, he gets saved! By Cable himself! Because of a twist of fate (and that's where we get into the multiverse) Cable’s future gets a chance to be awesome thanks to Deadpool saving those lives.
Wade Wilson Takes On The World (Including a Visit to the Avengers!)
Let's talk multiverse for a moment, a concept Wade Wilson actually has to confront. We know Deadpool got a bit mixed up in a battle between different realities, and in the process, he traveled into our "Earth-616," a major moment! It's one of the reasons people love "Deadpool & Wolverine" so much because those characters are finally brought together! Wade even goes looking to become an Avenger at one point! If those "Avengers" ever heard that Deadpool was seeking to join, it might be worth re-watching those Movies with the knowledge he was asking for that membership card! You gotta love it!
That "Deadpool & Wolverine" movie wraps up with Wade getting rescued, reunited with Vanessa, and with his world surviving with help from the main MCU Timeline Wolverine! This story doesn’t end there because it ends up being just the start of the future that they have with each other! And who knows what’s coming next?
What Does the Future Hold for Deadpool?
Now that Deadpool is part of the MCU, you can definitely expect him to show up in some more movies, even though he might be just doing his own thing in a multiversal way, which makes things much more entertaining.
We don’t even know when or if we’ll see "Deadpool 4", but those Marvel Studio adventures and cameos make it seem like we might just have the "Deadpool-ness" for years to come, maybe even forever! Stay tuned, it’s time for more adventure in those wild worlds with the greatest fourth-wall-breaker the cinematic universe ever knew, Wade Wilson.
