Blackgate Prison – it’s a name that is familiar to those who follow The Batman and Gotham City. Fans are sure to know those stories. Batman and his arch-enemies - they will be incarcerated within those walls. The city itself, a world of crime – its a dark and dangerous place - one that’s also given those villains and criminals, a place to go, that's also, been the center of attention, Batman's enemies – those who present the biggest threat – those villains will have a chance to make an impact on Gotham - but in order to protect the city from those villains and Gotham as a whole those who fight for justice and protect the city – those villains will need to be put in jail – that’s where Blackgate comes in, it serves a very important function. A place to contain the threat and prevent those villains from wreaking havoc. A prison that's known as Blackgate – its not just a place that holds those criminals, that's an important and critical role, in a world of superheroes, – the prison itself, it represents that grim and at times depressing reality of Gotham it’s not just a world of Batman and the Joker. In fact - the stories that are told about Blackgate they are a reminder - how society works, how those who break the law - they are often sent to prison. It’s an idea that might seem like it can be taken for granted, those who watch movies - in the superhero genre and its an important part - of those stories. Blackgate – it gives those audiences, an opportunity to see those villains, often they will find themselves in a different light - especially the villains – the most menacing – they’ve done the most harm those criminals are always a danger. Blackgate Prison – its story is one that stretches back in the comic book world - its origins, in DC Comics. The characters that are featured in that prison - they might not be as known or they will have those distinctive traits – they might be a danger but also a criminal. Those who follow those DC Comics and that universe are likely to have encountered these two institutions. Both those places play an important part in The Batman, those stories – that continue to be told – it gives a real feel of just how those villains – they are threats and they also show, how Gotham struggles to deal with crime.
