The Rookie season 7 leaves some loose ends to be tied off, but one of the most urgent issues will surely be the prison break. From first showing in season 1, episode 15, "Manhunt," Oscar has been a bother to Nolan and a source of hilarity. Now that the antagonist is no more limited to a cell, there are many interesting tales to investigate given the significant part he participated in behind bars.
If the audience knew of Oscar's escape, Monica also on the run and Bailey in custody would have made the ideal closing stunner. Rosalind Dyer advised viewers not to undervalue the show's recurrent enemies even if its success was not guaranteed. Nolan finds the revelation surprising, but for viewers it just validates our prior suspicions. Jason's participation was supposed to add shock value, but in the big picture of the show he's barely relevant, so it's difficult to regard him as a major threat.
Long before they were a couple, Tim and Lucy were friends; their gap apart in the climax is evident. Though the suffering it causes both characters, letting go of Lucy is the only thing that could motivate Tim to start looking for the required help since the pilot. Tim's development isn't diminished by Dr. London's imprisonment since opening oneself is a major indication of development.
The extreme steps Lucy goes to save Tim highlight her pure love for the soldier. Though they might not be together as the show concludes, the former rookie and training officer team is still very much in each other's life. Tim and Lucy's unquestionable emotions will probably open the path for an interesting future storyline that will bring their six years of build-up full-circle.
Tuesday, May 21 officially marked the end of The Rookie season 6 with an episode that naturally caught my interest. The plot of Monica and Dr. London peaks when the defense attorney believes Blair might no longer be under her control. From Lucy's fast automobile chase to Nolan's team-up with the FBI in Argentina, "Escape Plan" is worth viewing for the stunt work alone. The episode lacks in the most important areas, though, as its action scenes take front stage.
Nathan Fillion plays police officer John Nolan in the police procedural TV show The Rookie. John, 45 years old, starts the Los Angeles Police Department as the oldest rookie. The show debuted on ABC in 2018.
Though its tiny episode count, the Rookie must be held to the high standards it has established for itself as it has before gone out with a bang each season. Well-crafted cliffhangers such Armstrong's set-up, Angela's kidnapping, and Chenford's first kiss helped to make the wait between seasons seem unboundedly lengthy. Sadly, the season 6 ending loses the heart-stopping event that makes me wonder for months after the credits roll.
Following the SAG-AFTRA and WGA strikes, ABC's Police Procedural ran a truncated season, much as many network television shows. Given a series with such a complex ensemble cast, the writers have previously been able to commit several episodes to particular storylines. With only ten payments, it is challenging to accomplish the same since the story has to be able to advance outside the relationships and characters. This makes The Rookie unable to capture the spectrum of feelings that viewers have grown to expect from a finale.
By no means is the Season 6 Finale of The Rookie a poor one overall. With ABC's deep characters and well developed relationships, its police procedural generates weekly excitement. I expect to be happy with each fresh addition. Though Episode 10 fell short of my expectations, a longer seventh season allows the writers adequate time to develop every narrative they intend to highlight.
