Edward Van Sloan

Edward Van Sloan had the first adaptation, which was an interesting challenge!

  • He played Van Helsing, the famed vampire hunter in 1931, showing up for "Dracula," with Bela Lugosi playing Count Dracula, and the pair previously starred together onstage as well. That must have brought an even greater excitement for those in the audience.

There's been some excellent actors playing Van Helsing. If anyone really nailed it! It would be Peter Cushing!

  • He brought Dr. Van Helsing to life, taking on this iconic role!
  • This came in the year 1958! He also made his way into two sequels, the first, "The Brides of Dracula" which came out in 1960! And lastly "The Legend of the 7 Golden Vampires which hit theaters in 1974. He wasn't just in the big screen though.
  • He appeared in "Dracula A.D. 1972". What a diverse range and impressive career!

What made Cushing such a compelling actor? It appears he brought his talents into playing not just one, but multiple Van Helsings from a diverse collection of the Dracula universe, making it super entertaining.

Herbert Lom:

  • In 1970. "Count Dracula." took viewers on a chilling and compelling adventure that gave us a really fun adaptation. Herbert Lom brought a fresh new element.
  • He was an exceptional performer that really shone on-screen for decades.

One of the elements about Lom's roles is that he was an exceptionally gifted comedian. He took on the role of Inspector Dreyfus in the Pink Panther movies!

Fans might be wondering if it worked? In a nutshell? While this "Count Dracula" version did not perform exceptionally well but Lom managed to deliver one of his greatest performances as the iconic vampire hunter! What's great, is it looks to be a more well-respected character, making his time onscreen memorable.

It looks like these vampires are giving these performers a great opportunity! For this particular actor it seemed his one and only major cinematic venture was in 1979, with "Nosferatu the Vampyre!" What made this truly memorable, was how his character came back from the first movie, from the original in 1922. The whole series was unique because of how "Nosferatu really did capture a spirit that the first film wasn't able to!

The role that Walter Ladengast played, became very prominent.

There were a lot of memorable moments in his acting career and as Van Helsing in "Bram Stoker’s Dracula", Hopkins showed how versatile his talents could be as well. Audiences will recall what a different kind of doctor that this show created!

For "Bram Stoker’s Dracula" that took audiences through some incredible events set back in the 19th century. We see these awesome characters all in action in a compelling plot with a mix of memorable stars like Gary Oldman who was Count Dracula! As well as "Vlad the Impaler," along with a young Keanu Reeves, as the character Jonathan Harker.

Hopkins took his character to a very wild, very compelling new place where audiences were taken aback! With such memorable scenes like that. Fans love to see a great cast, particularly when a director such as "Francis Ford Coppola" is involved.

Mel Brooks:

Mel Brooks has shown a ton of talent throughout his entire career, from those well known and adored "Blazing Saddles", "Young Frankenstein" and "Spaceballs". The talented writer and director gave the world an exceptionally comedic take on a story you wouldn't think it could be told.

This one film was just ridiculous. And brought some unexpected characters. But it gave fans a great time! One memorable moment from this movie, is where he is trying to defeat "Count Dracula", where he throws some crazy, unexpected words at him that really made audiences laugh!

David Moroni

A famous dancer David Moroni was behind this truly awesome adaptation! What stands out most is how "Dracula: Pages from a Virgin’s Diary" is an incredible mix of beauty, drama, and artistic movements as the stars show off their remarkable skills in 1990.

Rutger Hauer:

"Rutger Hauer", he's appeared in so many memorable movies! Such as "Blade Runner" and "Ladyhawke!" Audiences were thrilled when "Dracula 3D" came out in 2012, but while his time on screen, it really wasn't that long.

  • It didn't arrive until the third act and unfortunately, the story itself did not really come together with the audience.

What was so crazy, was that his take on Van Helsing really was an interesting variation, as it seemed this particular Van Helsing wasn't as traditional, with some new ideas! For example, Hauer, was trying to uncover his past connection to vampires and had a history, having been at a psychiatric facility.

It's crazy! And it certainly made the role of Van Helsing different and incredibly dynamic and yet audiences found some charm with it and certainly memorable.

"Dracula Reborn, which came out as an adaptation! But this one had some interesting differences.

It focused on the modern day!

  • A different version of Van Helsing was brought to life. This one was so committed, and went after all the evil of these vampires.

Even if they were the police, it wasn't a big problem, or even surprising. It just showed what the character was so passionate about! Yet he had his fair share of failures in this movie.

Christine Prouty:

Christine Prouty had an opportunity to create something special when it came to her version of Van Helsing and it even brought a more female-driven approach to the role, as "Amelia" in the film, "Dracula: The Original Living Vampire." It seemed as if a police detective had been hunting vampires!

She even went so far to challenge audiences in this particular movie because of how she was playing someone who wasn't immediately on board with these ideas. A bit hard to do if you have an identity and life centered around those creepy monsters but this certainly made "Amelia" a more compelling character to audiences.

Jack Gwillim:

Jack Gwillim made his debut in 1987. For fans, it's pretty wild how a movie for kids can have an actor from such a renowned cast as Gwillim. He starred in the film "The Monster Squad.". You know those kids that always want to believe in the crazy monsters they see on screen, and their "Van Helsing." Well, he comes from those memories!

While he doesn't appear for long, he comes back at the end for one memorable scene where he makes sure the vampire goes to an unworldly space for the ages, and this could certainly be for everyone.

Peter Fonda:

Christopher Plummer:

  • What stood out for Plummer was his appearance in 1992 for "Bram Stoker’s Dracula, and had audiences on the edge of their seats.
