Venom: Let There Be Carnage Review - Tom Hardy's Epic Trilogy Finale!

Venom: Let There Be Carnage - A Totally Rad Sendoff for Tom Hardy's Symbiotic Duo!

Venom: Let There Be Carnage - A Venom Fan's Dream Come True!

Okay, let's be real: I'm a Venom fan. Way back in 2018, I gave the first Venom movie a generous three out of five stars. Even six years later, I still stand by that rating! It had that unique charm; something incredibly offbeat for the genre and also that totally unexpected heart found only through Tom Hardy's amazing portrayal of Eddie Brock and Venom.

Venom: Let There Be Carnage is everything that made the first one awesome… and then some! We get even more of that wonderfully weird bond between Eddie and Venom,  more awesome symbiote action (that Venom Horse sequence is pure gold!), and even more of that oddly sentimental connection. There are also some of the issues present from before and this does include occasional Marvel lore dumps (particularly surrounding that dangerous, big bad Knull), plus those cheesy moments. Yet even with those parts, this entire movie's just incredibly fun and those minor imperfections could be entirely overlooked, given that much-needed awesome energy. The charm, the overall enjoyment found entirely because of how well-made the movie really is; it totally justifies that nostalgic retro feeling.

Tom Hardy: The Heart and Soul of Venom: Let There Be Carnage

Remember that insane scene from the first movie with Tom Hardy in a lobster tank? That’s exactly what made those earlier Movies memorable!  Hardy’s all-in performance— totally embracing the craziness of Marvel’s Venom– created the strong chemistry between Eddie and the symbiote and became its backbone and heart, and remains its greatest selling point even now!

Venom: Let There Be Carnage makes the smart move: letting Hardy totally loose!  He's the grumpy Eddie, yet he’s also that maniacally fun Symbiote. It’s like a buddy-comedy road trip (and this reminded me of that awesome Deadpool & Wolverine movie earlier this year!), a brilliantly cast duo capable of conveying immense emotions while maintaining comedic sensibilities in various ways; especially that emotional blend that works far more often than not and totally justifies those unexpected emotional depth, the heart present throughout this storyline!

The rest of the cast? Amazing, but definitely played their parts slightly less dramatically than Hardy (and this isn't bad!). Juno Temple totally shines as Dr. Payne (a dedicated symbiote researcher),  Chiwetel Ejiofor’s Rex Strickland is suitably gruff,  Rhys Ifans is delightfully quirky as Martin (a UFO enthusiast).   Peggy Lu's Mrs. Chen (the only returning character) remains quite enjoyable, even though this was done poorly.  The balance between all this works really well, considering that Hardy’s insane ability and comedic genius creates so much focus!

Venom: Let There Be Carnage - For Venom Fans, By Venom Fans!

Venom The Last Dance Til Death Do They Part Poster Image

This movie is designed to finish off this Venom trilogy, not expanding this to incorporate any others. This is important; it highlights a key feature, showcasing that sometimes not being part of a larger universe might make it better; it allows creative focus on that specific element rather than worrying about wider plot consequences that can often feel unnecessarily restrictive and hurt quality! Tom Hardy and writer-director Kelly Marcel clearly adore this unique take on Venom,  and deliver a completely worthy ending, making this conclusion incredibly worthwhile.

While cheesy, sentimental moments exist, those are very minor things which do add some heart – things done sincerely. The makers are entirely sincere, generating sincere results; the love put in clearly results in audiences’ approval! And anyone expecting some crossover or Multiverse nonsense; well,  Venom himself is incredibly done with the Multiverse. So you might feel disappointment if this is all you wanted from a Venom movie. It clearly wants to stay contained; only telling this specific tale through its unique plot and themes!

Conclusion: A Symbiotic Success!

Venom: Let There Be Carnage proves that excellent casting (Tom Hardy),  a director with a clear understanding of what audiences expect (Kelly Marcel), and freedom from larger universe demands create surprisingly unique opportunities, all capable of adding those fun details; it proves the perfect balance is truly possible! This is slightly bizarre and wildly silly and also surprisingly emotional. This really does generate a perfectly enjoyable conclusion, which truly satisfied most of its audience's own expectations and wishes. So while maybe not for everyone,  this third entry totally satisfied that long-awaited demand. Go get this movie. You’ll love it, just like this.
