Released in 1996 exactly one year before *I Know What You Did Last Summer*, the original *Scream* film was a big slasher smash. Three films directed by Wes Craven preceded the franchise, then sat dormant for more than ten years. With the premiere of 2022's *Scream*, which combined legacy cast members like Sidney Prescott (Neve Campbell) and Gale Weathers (courteney Cox) with newbies like Sam (Melissa Barrera) and Tara (Jenna Ortega), the franchise returned in big measure.
Capturing both fans who liked the originals and others who were brand-new to the concept, 2022's *Scream* was a hit both commercially and critically. Last year, the well-reviewed *Scream 6* carried on this pattern. Announced in early 2023, *I Know What You Did Last Summer* is getting a fresh sequel from Jennifer Love Hewitt and writer Lead McKendrick under director Jennifer Kaytin Robinson. Starting a new chronology and ignoring the later successors, the movie will be a direct follow-up to the 1997 horror movie.
Sony Pictures will be producing the movie, hence it is most likely that it will show in theatres. Having a new director and a new script, *I Know What You Did Last Summer* might be a more contemporary rendition of the franchise. 1997 saw the first *I Know What You Did Last Summer* published. Julie James would thus be in her mid-40s in the new movie. She might even have her own family and is probably a more seasoned and confident person.
While the next movie will also have to include fresh, younger characters to draw younger viewers, Hewitt's comeback alongside fellow original *I Know What You Did Last Summer* would be a solid beginning to rekindling affection for the franchise. Although Robinson is on board as a director, given her work on 2022's *Do Revenge*, it sounds as though these specifics are still under work on. Though many issues still surround *I Know What You Did Last Summer*, Hewitt's most recent report shows encouraging trends.
Although Campbell is anticipated to return once more following a sitting out *Scream 6*, the confirmed *Scream 7* has lost both Barrera and Ortega.
