Scarlet Witch in Doctor Strange 2: Let's Talk Wanda's Wild Ride
Okay, so you want the real deal on Scarlet Witch in Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness? Let's dive in, because most articles out there either tiptoe around the juicy bits or get bogged down in academic analysis (seriously, someone wrote a philosophy paper on it!). This isn't a lecture hall, my friend, this is a casual chat.
Wanda's journey in Multiverse of Madness is a rollercoaster. Fresh from the events of WandaVision – still mourning Vision and coping with being an incredibly powerful force. For Dr Strange Wanda appears merely as someone who will have answers – the catalyst for the story! The fact that he didn't consider for a moment what her mental state – even as powerful as the Sorcerer Supreme he was made to be—was absolutely insane! While looking for answers for America Chavez’s multiversal shifting, little could he ever think what his real role ended up being when teaming up with Wanda!
From moment one when they started planning to find America Chavez it should’ve become more clear: how this will become so insane it couldn't possibly work! However we clearly forgot a crucial detail about Scarlet Witch: her enormous amount of power! Doctor Strange Wanda, by the end of the show had created one of the greatest “bad” hero portrayals of the modern MCU. But to me; personally, that makes sense, also after being directly influenced by some particular spell books after WandaVision.
This storyline made everyone who thought highly about both Doctor Strange and the Scarlet Witch suddenly realize it’s true depth. As in: the full scope of powers both have.
We know Wanda is the more powerful, however that's just what we assume given we see her taking control against multiple sorcerers! So she may be the strongest Avenger. Even now though, few appreciate or understand precisely how she came about, even to someone whose name has become quite familiar over recent years: the Scarlet Witch.
Wanda and Strange: A Clash of Titans (and Personalities)
The dynamic between Doctor Strange Scarlet Witch in Multiverse of Madness is fascinating. There’s two opposing ways we see Doctor Strange: one that's very clearly trying to be an anti-hero after the Spiderman incident—where he acted clearly out of personal motivation! The other Doctor Strange is very focused on his job: almost seeming the role of teacher to America, the Scarlet Witch appearing as a distraction rather than the true focus, and thus ending up losing.
What I'm surprised people didn't notice more; that while they might seem similar on surface due to powers, their worldviews and actions contrast drastically—Doctor Strange Scarlet Witch clearly demonstrate the clash from that duality across the entire show. Strange seems driven by protecting his particular timeline – which was understandable – rather than truly empathizing with people with the other characters in other universes.
The contrast becomes deeper with what he seems like: someone without much to lose personally, at least before the event with Christine – in deep opposition to Wanda: a literal embodiment of grief.
In another reality though; after seeing the clash, and being clearly the loser against the Scarlet Witch’s powers in direct action combat, the only thing missing in Multiverse of Madness— was some plot focusing on Scarlet Witch also helping save Doctor Strange’s own family from death as well. And though many think there wasn’t, clearly people forgot to take WandaVision events and Agatha Harkness influence into consideration for shaping Wanda’s own character! To me; she really felt “unbalanced” from prior influences here and could’ve been so easily controlled and misguided.
After all: there's a difference between wanting something after acknowledging how it seems to you; to being told to actively feel what it would be like and then told “what to think and how to be like what we know you to feel”! I even thought of changing that entire narrative myself to account for the Agatha influence, also because Marvel hadn't explored Agatha’s effect on the entire Wanda storyline sufficiently.
Scarlet Witch Dr Strange 2: Impact and Aftermath
After seeing Multiverse of Madness: There were a few lingering thoughts on people's minds concerning Wanda’s impact throughout: some wondered “is it possible Dr Strange is alive in a particular universe?" – since Wanda’s attack at Kamar-Taj seemed to specifically target and capture mages instead of killing!
- Wanda's descent: How far will grief drive Wanda? Doctor Strange 2 Wanda’s already an excellent demonstration.
- The Multiverse: We glimpsed different versions of various characters–will they revisit and continue to expand or provide future episodes with them, now?!
- Scarlet Witch's power: Marvel truly set Wanda as powerful force – a level comparable and capable of outperforming Doctor Strange’s powers completely!
Dr Strange Scarlet Witch’s shared movie time set an incredible scene—though personally I think we should start paying more attention to these types of movies given they hint what the whole movie season's intent might eventually turn out be like, rather than merely creating storylines or character introductions
So next time you re-watch that incredible storyline that we experienced after the epic and incredible battle Marvel Wanda Dr Strange movie showed between Doctor Strange and Scarlet Witch in Multiverse Of Madness remember: some incredible events followed after WandaVision. That whole plot only became an actual reality due to events before the storyline even had begun! It all fits together!
