Hold onto your hats, folks, because Nicole Kidman and Harris Dickinson are turning up the heat in their new erotic thriller, "Babygirl"! This A24 film, directed by Halina Reijn, explores a very kinky affair between a tech CEO (Kidman) and her much younger intern (Dickinson). It's so intense that Kidman snagged the Best Actress award at the Venice International Film Festival!
But how did they handle those super explicit scenes? With the help of intimacy coordinator Lizzie Talbot, of course. They established boundaries and then went for it and as interviews Harris confirmed this! Harris explained their process too, during several exclusive press and public Q/A moments including within Variety which I quote here too "We'd set some general agreement then explore it! We also had intimacy professional, Lizzy too during all of the intimate, physical touch stuff across recordings so everything worked and "safer too for everyone rather than letting all happen “more purely and by feel entirely even those early parameters let everything get made without those risks too!.”
Even Nicole chimed in on the challenges of the film! With so much involved beyond physical touch during this emotionally intimate character work each participant, specifically both Kidman/Harris must fully embody their parts too while performing either across those specific, scenes.
While filming proved tricky it never faltered through clear collaboration with full open discussion which Lizzy and her professional staff supported either behind the stage during recording. This collaboration facilitated exploration around personal and character needs! Which allowed everything too get performed safely within everyone’s own levels either. Both also felt completely “ok during every process!. This further reassured both as everything went recorded across those explicit scenes within the films intimate performances that could either easily fail or become too traumatic even without adequate preparation or lack those strong mutual boundaries within working across something so intensely close as required here between each character either while retaining safety plus keeping “filming “feeling real despite so much setup and extra team surrounding either across every intimate performance sequence.
One scene has a practically naked Dickinson dancing to George Michael's "Father Figure" which as Dickinson himself confirmed in follow up post filming moments in several exclusive behind the scenes interviews later was purely "off the cuff too," without rehearsal with only direction was too literally dance.
Dickinson couldn’t hold himself either across several opportunities around learning directly across his iconic, star partner across shooting periods like remembering those moments filming alongside Kubrick during a recent interview within Hollywood reporter Dickinson reflected also by adding also during those periods when she mentioned that it never initially registered into thought either before it occurred either. Which led several humorous awkward exchanges also between each co-star! Despite potential for something stressful instead these moments created camaraderie rather.
Can we just take another second about the whole impromptu “father figure,” dance routine across the entire bedroom? It certainly showed Harris confidence rather than only embarrassment, in that “fully going into role!” aspect, rather also. However, Dickinson ultimately did confirm embarrassment too after it, since performing like that can always lead back to that rather than maintaining the bravado when remembering later, when “all’s said and done” also regarding those now “permanent recorded segments as also being fully on show as soon as Babygirl premiers across film festivals everywhere!.
Imagine starring in “movie with one of Hollywood royalty like K. Kidman!. Harris kept reminding us also that “he continually reminding both internally as part those continual and subconscious anxieties while co-starring alongside K also! which Harris openly admits too that it continually happened within her presence even without “needing verbal mention every minute for both. And just continually “ask, poke some awkward bits for those interactions too across their downtime.
Turns out Kidman completely shattered expectations either unlike what her public persona sometimes might seem if observing exclusively based across media interviews without looking “further rather.
Dickinson said Kidman was warm. They talked like normal across moments within movie, instead of keeping distance!. Even he openly expresses even despite now remembering their earlier conversations around his embarrassment that actually her actions provided calming reassurances towards continuing performing which also inspired the entire Babygirl’s film shoot without Harris worrying either regarding “looking stupid for trying those “moves.” during his room performance rather as that was another worry too about not overthinking which could cause further overcompensation during physical or other touch-based sequences as he recalled recently within Vanity where many discussions about intimate-film-work become shared from personal perspective on all across recent periods here that “really provide amazing new insights into these now increasingly more recognized aspect also which both K/Harris represent now here with both. In particular they're showing their dedication towards acting even without Harris saying this directly but as I could extrapolate as “their overall tone toward the work reflects that,” without those previously associated ego, status, seniority dynamics despite each differing greatly even those aspects become secondary once on set!. So this becomes the tone setter rather. It helped, that Dickinson ultimately described "Easy!" as he recalled more specifically when asked more further how this working happened now here within London West screening and earlier after film completion within several behind the stage chats where K spoke openly during questions rather than simply repeating similar “catchphrases also.”
