In MaXXXine set in 1980s Hollywood Maxine Minx an aspiring actress and adult film performer makes her start into Hollywood. As Maxine makes her way to fame in Hollywood the mysterious killer targets others who threaten to uncover secrets of her dark history. The film successfully grossed $22 million making it the highest-grossing movie in the X film trilogy marking a great success in box office. The film production involved creative collaboration with director Ti West with Mia Goth returning alongside crew and team members from initial movie demonstrating high potential and established chemistry.
Ti West the writer and director chose to alter some supernatural undertones from prior plot in Pearl because he felt these plot ideas went backward within plot sequences instead of enhancing creativity. Goth completed the script for MaXXXine around January 2023 claiming it to be her best story yet with a lot of key crew members also signed up. Ti West mentioned he intended to do four movies for the X series in February 2024 however during August 2024 stated his content with leaving at three films therefore making MaXXXine the ending of X movie series according to Reddit AMA.
