Zelda: Echoes of Wisdom Review - Amazing Game, Awful UI

We love Zelda, but one of its new releases has something that may take the shine off! A Nintendo Switch release, Echoes of Wisdom was welcomed with tons of praise and appreciation! But there's one glaring issue!

Players who are devoted fans will know this release came from Nintendo! If you didn't know it stars Zelda in a new adventure. She gets to save Hyrule while she has the tough task to single-handedly take down the many dangerous creatures and free Link!

But in doing so there's a unique problem that came along with it! Fans complained that Echoes of Wisdom had similar issues that they experienced with Tears of the Kingdom. Even with all this good stuff going on!

Echoes of Wisdom Vs Tears of the Kingdom:

This series has tons of unique moments and really gets fans engaged as Zelda moves forward she unlocks more powerful abilities. They come in the form of "Echoes." These special powers make sure that those who play the game, and know this universe. They are all about the world that has "Echoes."

If you haven't had a chance to check this out there is a way to find these special powers by hitting a button.

What is the issue? If you haven't experienced Tears of the Kingdom, it's tough to figure this one out, however, for fans that have "Echoes" have so many to unlock as Zelda works to find the power within this new "Zelda" adventure! That is a truly epic journey, too!

The Horizontal List Issue

Those who were huge fans of Tears of the Kingdom (which came out in 2023), know all the issues around scrolling through those large menus. If you hit the up button while aiming a bow. Those lists seem to take forever, especially if you want to find something in specific! It looks like that same experience is exactly what fans went through and experienced with "Echoes"!

The interface was definitely problematic and has lots of critics online.
Fans have been asking for new and unique ways to interact and get to this awesome content.
In the same way the up button was used for Tears of the Kingdom, the right d-pad was used to see the long horizontal list. That wasn't as annoying to deal with. However, when it comes to the Echoes you are likely to find yourself scrolling and scrolling.

How to Make it Easier for Gamers:

If you play games, especially this awesome genre! Everyone knows muscle memory. For gamers it is all too real and when they transition from a game that works well. That sense of "how to use" a game might cause some problems. So while Nintendo Switched things up slightly.

They did change the control. Players that use a controller! They will use the right D-Pad button.

For fans that were already used to the game, you might still find yourself going for the up button, making a new control much more difficult. That isn't necessarily bad, and what's more impressive is there was an added benefit from Nintendo for those who want an even easier and straightforward experience! It doesn't seem to have been explained as a change.

If you need to use a long list and a way to avoid confusion just use the L button and even the "Plus" button to see the menu!

A Stellar Release with Flaws

Fans who enjoyed "Echoes of Wisdom" gave Nintendo some big kudos! For creating such an amazing, fun and original new entry. With it being a memorable way for the company to go out before their next-gen release.

In the world of games! Everything doesn't go according to plan. But it doesn't mean fans don't have their hearts set on something awesome.

Even with that being true, for a lot of fans that long Horizontal List really wasn't the way to go for their adventure. Even with all the amazing features, some fans may think it really has to change.

With any game. There is always a lot of criticism. For fans it will be a long time to enjoy this latest Zelda series but it seems, there may need to be some adjustments along the way for those who are always trying to find an awesome, perfect way to enjoy their gameplay. Even with these problems it is super enjoyable. In fact, we get to see a brand new world of gaming that the series takes on.
