Double the Fun, Double the Hyrule: Why You NEED to Replay Zelda: Echoes of Wisdom!
The Legend of Zelda: Echoes of Wisdom is a blast! Seriously! A fantastic, brand-new top-down Zelda adventure. The first one in ages! Bringing back classic Zelda elements and gameplay but this game’s uniqueness comes from being different enough from the usual entries in the series. It’s amazing; especially when re-exploring this well-known universe that so many already enjoy; even if you've already beaten it. There’s incredible replayability in those wonderfully designed worlds; and many would agree this one could stand shoulder to shoulder with other Zelda entries which received the same high praise!
This article explains exactly why even those fans already completed this latest entry will enjoy doing it all over again; creating another and even possibly even better gameplay experience, by changing some fundamental and already existing aspects within this amazing adventure; changing what is done using clever challenge-based approaches. It might even be even more replayable than other Zelda games, precisely because of what is different about Echoes of Wisdom, and what kinds of experiences those might provide through clever restrictions that add some creative ways to experience the same core mechanics of gameplay using already existing tools in various, entirely new ways.
Even die-hard Zelda fans get that “That’s it?” feeling after beating it the first time. It's not that the game lacks imagination; or was creatively lacking—it's incredibly creative and brilliant from many standpoints! Yet those gameplay mechanics tend to be rather easy to manage: the incredible toolset provided, these powerful items; those abilities are truly overwhelming and frequently overpower those challenges presented within the storyline!
That lack of challenge doesn’t mean there are fewer engaging and highly impressive design elements, quite the opposite, especially upon further reflection on this particular game entry. Those tools you’re given in Echoes of Wisdom— the Echoes themselves— these completely make the game stupidly easy, easily capable of creating overwhelming odds whenever you use these more powerful abilities. That amazing ability isn’t what causes these shortcomings–that sheer, unadulterated ability is amazing– but what made the challenges and later, harder-to-complete obstacles in the story completely ineffective in delivering those hard-hitting surprises many fans anticipated from these very Zelda experiences.
Obvious way to make things harder: Turn on Hero Mode. It doubles damage taken, reduces recovery and you need to actively maintain that challenging playstyle by actively trying to avoid these penalties for making poor choices that greatly impact that gameplay experience!
But, there is an even better method– restrict your toolkit. Limit Echoes, accessories, and upgrades! Choosing what’s off-limits completely changes how you play; introducing totally new challenges in that entire gameplay. It's best for the second run to fully use everything on your first! Those initial explorations deserve to be as unlimited as the universe these narratives portray; and it can even potentially spoil those new discoveries! You'll also have another method available: that very much well-known Hero Mode can greatly adjust that overall difficulty for all those seeking an easier approach; and without necessarily limiting gameplay itself by placing limitations on specific features used during the story. Yet many hardcore Zelda fans should use a far more extreme strategy outlined later.
Consider the insane power provided through those many tools: This very power is something that should be heavily constrained! Movement options (beds, water blocks, Flatbooms) and you can test and restrict these to force creative puzzle solutions, that use those already existing items that could be used but not originally considered! It even goes beyond that – restrict those combat Echoes—ban those insanely strong fighters such as those Lynels, Wizzrobes, or Darknuts from later in the story and you add immense difficulties for your entire campaign.
Hebra Mountain is another location for those wanting specific location-based difficulty – you could also choose to only bring a single fire Echo—restricting those capabilities—or simply eliminate accessories altogether to add more difficulties; creating entirely different kinds of challenging scenarios and possibilities. This means, eliminating any use of more powerful items and instead relying on the basics of puzzle-solving will truly test even the hardest of veteran players!
Expect more awesome, unique challenges to emerge from the Zelda community! You can even consider some ideas which completely mirror the methods used in other games like Pokémon Nuzlocke—creating some seriously interesting randomizers that bring an additional unexpected and exciting challenge!
A particular side activity—that Acorn Gathering minigame, is much harder than the base game—showing what a serious difficulty boost truly means—and its reward is sadly really underwhelming compared to how intense and extremely challenging this particular challenge truly was; adding that extra challenge greatly elevates its significance, but the final result might be disappointing and shows even the simplest approaches have both a beginning and end!
Echoes of Wisdom is truly a solid game and one of the more underrated in recent releases. Its charm involves more than simply the story and amazing graphics, it shows off great environmental level design as well. It features those wonderfully varied and deep challenges which never grow stale–it even continues even beyond its core narrative plot and mechanics, meaning you get to explore Hyrule repeatedly. That replayability will greatly increase its value: those self-imposed limitations generate awesome challenges and creative experimentation! This creates entirely new, intense experiences even if many tools exist from earlier; yet only limited by your decision to use only some of them! It provides another extremely valuable game and completely justified in adding this highly valuable creative insight into what some fans might expect: A longer, deeper playtime.
