A weird meeting in Elden Ring: Shadow Of The Erdtree shows just how carefully the narrative of Messmer's Army was written. The DLC mostly centers on the destruction left in Messmer's wake; players arrive at Elden Ring's DLC area to see the Land of Shadow completely devastated and split apart by the Impaler's advance. After the war, the player discovers wrecked battlefields and is left to reconstruct the nature and path of the struggle on their own.
Players may find an odd scenario across the way from a specific cliff on the eastern side of the Ellac Greatbridge: a tiny troop of soldiers caught in a dramatic last stand against a bunch of Bloodfiend Giants. The two seem to be embroiled in an endless battle for domination, hence the player doesn't have to do anything to incite this. Though the reason is not totally clear, the player will learn these are common soldiers in Messmer's Army if they are ready to get a bit closer and stay around for the outcome. Not exactly obvious, though, what that actually entails.
First and most importantly, the equipment left by these Messmer troops makes it quite evident that they are "Common Soldiers," that is, items like Common Soldier Greaves, Common Soldier Helmets, and cetera. From a tented camp at the foot of the Ellac Greatbridge, these set them apart from the finer troops of Messmer, who took potshots at passers-by using a blazing ballista. Thus, Messmer's army plainly has a chain of command, and the lower-ranked troops are assigned more dangerous duties.
Aiming to clear the Land of Shadow from all creatures, human and monster, who would stand in their path, Messmer's troops also seem to attack monsters wherever they come across. Dragons elsewhere in the DLC can assault camps that players uncover. This element shows Messmer as an even more major villain than ever before in line with the division of classes in his army. His superiority complex seems to have permeated his followers, and his full dedication to destruction is clear-cut.
Although the DLC narrative of Elden Ring reveals a lot more about Messmer, the precise operations and internal politics of his army remain unknown. Still, they create a strong combat force and a deserving adversary in Shadow of the Erdtree. It just implies that gamers still have some riddles to uncover in Elden Ring.
With their sheer numbers and dedication to total war, the common soldiers are essential members of Messmer's army. Though apparently small, their presence reveals a great deal about Messmer's character: his cold-blooded contempt for the life of his soldiers and his relentless allegiance to his own distorted vision.
The meeting between Messmer's Army and the Bloodfiend Giants provides evidence of the violence and scope of the conflict in Shadow of the Erdtree DLC. Showcasing their unflinching allegiance to their mission, the common warriors are ready to fight a great adversary despite their inferior tools and line of command.
Their fruitless last stand reminds us sharply of the destruction Messmer has done on the Land of Shadow. It also emphasizes the destructive character of Messmer's ambition and his readiness to sacrifice even his own soldiers to reach his objectives, therefore addressing the general theme of chaos and destruction permeating the DLC.
From Software, developers of games including Armor Core, Dark Souls, and Bloodborne, debuted Elden Ring. Assuming the role of a Tarnished, a being once banished to the Lands Between, players go back to fix the Elden Ring following "The Shattering." "The Shattering" happened when Queen Marika's children fought to retrieve the Great Runes, or Elden Ring shards. Their conflict has brought lawlessness, damage, and anarchy to the nation; the player will challenge them with the help of a Maiden called Melina as they trek toward the great Erd Tree to face their destiny and to become the one true Elden Lord. Whether they are a fierce swordsman or a strong magic caster, players can approach the game anyway they choose and adventure across worlds while developing their character - they will have total control over their build.
Elden Ring's universe is full with hard interactions, lore, and minute detail. The open world architecture of the game lets players explore a large and varied terrain, discover mysteries, and fight fiercely with strong adversaries. Shadow of the Erdtree's DLC keeps building on this complex tapestry, adding fresh riddles, confronting challenges, and a better knowledge of the history of the Lands Between and the powers ready to wipe it off.
