Star Wars: Bounty Hunter's New Release Has A New, Long-Awaited Feature
The PlayStation 5 is getting another PS2 game, Star Wars: Bounty Hunter, on August 1, with native enhancements for the newer console and its DualSense controller. There has been a recent resurgence of PS2 titles coming to PlayStation 5 through PlayStation Plus' Premium tier, which uses emulation to bring titles from the PS1, PS2, and PSP consoles to modern hardware, with newer features such as Trophies, quicksaving, and more to bring the experience of playing these older titles up to what a more modern gaming audience might expect.
There have also been various remakes and remasters of titles from this acclaimed era of gaming over the years to bring classic titles to those who may not be on one of these higher subscription tiers, and a new PlayStation Blog post has confirmed that Star Wars: Bounty Hunter will be receiving this treatment with improved environment textures and new lighting effects. The new version has been developed by Aspyr, who has previously worked on Star Wars remasters and ports such as Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic and the more recent Star Wars: Battlefront Classic Collection.
Players Can Finally Play As Boba Fett
Perhaps the biggest change from the previous releases of the game is that Aspyr has finally made an Easter Egg a reality. While Star Wars: Bounty Hunter follows Jango Fett's origin story, previous versions of the game displayed a very low-resolution texture with a message written in Aurebesh that translated to “Cash in all bounties to play as Boba.” Unfortunately, this was a false promise, as the feature to play as Boba Fett didn't exist, which led to some disappointment for those who achieved 100% completion and still could only play as Jango Fett. In the new version of Star Wars: Bounty Hunter, once players have finished the main campaign, they will be able to equip a new Boba Fett skin for their next playthrough.
This Boba Fett skin is included in the game regardless of what platform players choose to play it on. While the PlayStation 5 version does have more features due to its DualSense optimization, Star Wars: Bounty Hunter is a Multiplatform release and will also be on PS4, PC, Nintendo Switch, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S, making this the first time the game will be playable on Xbox consoles - it originally launched on PS2 and Nintendo Gamecube in 2022 - when it launches on August 1, 2024. Pre-orders are now available with a 10% discount, bringing the price down to $17.99.
