After nearly nine years of silence, the Mario & Luigi series is FINALLY back! Mario & Luigi: Brothership is the first brand-new game in almost a decade and has some HUGE shoes to fill. This thing needs to capture what made previous games so beloved; that amazing upbeat style, that wonderfully quirky humor – and then add something fresh, something NEW! This is no small feat. And it should come as no surprise that getting that special something is what generates the most anticipation from this announcement.

Getting a new Mario & Luigi game feels like a miracle. Paper Jam (their last original game) was okay-ish. Sales were low; after this they did some remakes that didn't exactly set the world on fire. And then? AlphaDream (the original developers) went bankrupt! So yeah, most people figured that was it. This is where it becomes even more impressive, showing just how much that continued hype could’ve really changed the overall outcome!

One way Brothership proves itself awesome is by learning from previous errors. Many previous Mario & Luigi games were fantastic for those truly unforgettable settings – Superstar Saga's Beanbean Kingdom or Dream Team's Pi'illo Island— each filled with amazing characters and totally unique styles. Yet Paper Jam didn’t really try and kept the setting bland (a generic Mushroom Kingdom filled with the same Toads). It seriously lacked that unique flavor that makes Mario & Luigi such a great addition and made it fall flat despite containing those core features of a great Zelda title. Those creative designs in setting have truly been missed for a long period.

But Brothership is totally different! The trailer focuses on Concordia, a land split into distinct islands; This is immediately visually distinct compared to past attempts! We’re talking a constantly rainy jungle, an island shaped like a ship–each area has unique visuals and characters, completely reviving those key elements which made that series unique, and highly appreciated by longtime players! That whole new world creates this epic sense of discovery. This completely demonstrates just how much consideration really had been given towards this game!

New Mechanics, Fresh Challenges and Even More Gameplay!

Brothership's approach isn’t merely a visual change. This game leverages the series history to produce that natural evolution – meaning there are going to be key new additions added onto already existing mechanics; This doesn’t entirely change those elements that longtime players value, rather, they build on this with exciting new options and mechanics. For example: Luigi's Logic provides some seriously complex puzzle designs–which completely outdoes what previous entries did. The addition of Battle Plugs, applying various battle effects – adds another exciting, and challenging gameplay layer – totally focusing on creative combat strategies and options.

There’s already some insane speculation. People are thinking: those Mario Bros. might not be the Mario Bros. (the ones from Super Mario). This possibility opens new story elements, new avenues for creating creative new titles. If this is the case, expect the plot itself to contain even deeper mysteries, especially when considering some plot designs in previous Mario & Luigi games.
