21. Survival Set: Fimbulwinter's Fashion Fail

Let's be honest: The Survival Set is utterly basic, completely outclassed early on, even if its purpose does makes sense as an intro set; you get this when the game begins and this initial outfit is clearly shown as rather dull. While Kratos’ ruggedness matches this set's vibe, visually it's quite boring, providing some base defense stats, however that would never matter in the long term because there is far, far better to get! A completely unnecessary, rather dull and very boring suit that should never ever be chosen beyond its introduction and beginning stages.

20. Vidar’s Set of Might: Combo King, but Not a Conqueror

This early game armor focuses on combo finishers, useful in those starting phases! This isn’t quite bad, but it struggles on higher difficulties due to issues related to enemy reactions in addition to how they impact parry techniques. It's got mediocre stats that ultimately result in this rather weak outcome.

19. Hunter’s Set: Ranged-Focused, but Too Fragile

This late-game armor is a complete ranged build. Those crazy powerful ranged attacks however make this set glass cannon status - high damage output yet exceptionally frail! Its ability to shorten cooldowns for those key spells remains impressive but can be somewhat easily ignored because those defenses can simply not work in many instances, ultimately causing a highly unsatisfactory performance if the armor isn’t designed accordingly.

18. Enlightenment Set: Elemental Enhancement and Visual Subtlety

Kratos wearing the Vidar's Might armor set in God of War Ragnarok. Image

Good early game armor. It buffs your elemental Runic attacks. Runic attacks and elemental effects become crucial later, and while it is a viable choice for those early levels; better choices soon emerge; making it largely ineffective compared to later, superior sets.

17. Fortified Husk Set: A Solid Early Game Choice, but quickly surpassed!

Kratos wearing the Hunter Set in God of War Ragnarok. Image

This might just be your best bet early on – high defense and encouraging parrying!   Those abilities; those reduced unblockable damage buffs help players familiarize themselves with Ragnarök’s combat systems! Yet this one too is quickly left behind!

16. Spiritual Set: A Balanced Approach for Casual Gameplay, Easily ignored

The Enlightenment armor set worn by Kratos in God of War Ragnarok. Image

This one emphasizes balanced Runic/melee attacks, useful in its creation of combat loops.  But its plain visual appearance combined with its lack of overall emphasis toward a particular attack technique limits its potential greatly. And its overall low defense stats make its otherwise average benefits quite underwhelming compared to those better choices with greater benefits. Its design ultimately demonstrates questionable design choices that didn't enhance combat in any critical way.

15. Raven Tears Set: Healing Focus and Notable Looks, Still Underrated

Kratos in the Fortified Husk set, seen in God of War Ragnarok. Image

You get this after finding those Odin’s Ravens; which can be challenging but results in obtaining various armor pieces from a challenging midgame content!   It provides amazing healing effects. While those effects really do matter a lot – they're complemented by increased healing potential in addition to other defense advantages; they lack the sufficient offensive prowess needed to reach the top of our ranking.

14. Radiance Set: Matrix-Style Dodging for Style and Success, with massive requirements.

This crazy set enables "Realm Shift" – slow-mo evades that increase Runic damage output. That sounds cool and looks cool! Those amazing visual styles are only found with this specific set, its ability to counter speedy enemies truly elevates combat in its emphasis toward agility; however its intense, extreme resource requirements in addition to its overall low offensive power lowers this otherwise great choice for obtaining some unique benefits toward gameplay. The gameplay itself might seem fun and stylish yet ultimately doesn’t always work very well across various combat types, lowering its effectiveness and causing the overall rating to fall below its higher-level counter-parts.

13. Sol’s Set of Courage: Rage-Based Defense, Yet Underwhelming.

A visually underwhelming armor piece, yet harnessing Kratos' Rage ability is really great!   This armor uses it defensively, soaking damage.  While Kratos' Rage is very potent – there are some key elements lacking here that makes this ultimately a mediocre addition: this emphasis toward a rather straightforward use of this skill would fall greatly compared to other choices that greatly improve other defensive or offensive elements. This underwhelms; making its ultimate ability rather underwhelming, even when focusing solely on one strategy that emphasizes this rather basic ability.

12. Mani’s Wisdom Set: Weapon-Switching Frenzy with Mixed Results.

This Runic-based set utilizes Extinguish Flames and Vaporise Frost (both are initially acquired in gameplay!). These work in conjunction. You buff one element by using the other; It enhances combat using a crazy frantic weapon switch approach but it has mediocre defense values, meaning it might not always work well unless that particular gameplay is favored; thus severely hampering its usability and ranking.

11. Steinbjorn’s Set: Maximum Tankiness, Minimal Excitement

Kratos and Atreus from God of War Ragnarok Image

Get this after doing that extremely long troll side quest.  It is massively defensive and some enemies might even be stunned; causing their attacks to temporarily stop; however it lacks any kind of actual significant value against enemies because it makes that combat a slog, even making things sluggish on even higher difficulty modes. It might feel tough; however its massive slow pace severely reduces overall impact and value, thus resulting in the low ranking compared to other choices with significantly better usability. It also creates the unfortunate result that emphasizes those questionable designs decisions by the game developers; adding yet another disappointment beyond what was implied by its visuals and name alone.

10. Surtr’s Scorched Set: Muspelheim's Fiery Gift With Underwhelming Results

Reward from Muspelheim trials! It is mostly well-rounded and does have Rage meter benefits and great buffs towards both defense and offense. However; its visual design; reusing a prior model lowers that perceived value significantly; resulting in the overall impression that this remains largely unimportant despite initially showcasing some great promises. It looks the same as that early Fortified Husk set. It also lacks a certain oomph that elevates that combat significantly; resulting in rather poor ranking considering what it takes to actually get this.

9. Dragon Scaled Set: Parrying Perfection and Stunning Visuals, at an Extreme Price!

This one takes some effort; located within Vanaheim (and massively expensive),  this is all about better blocks and parries which enhance Ragnarök's intense combat! This gets more valuable in higher difficulties; these become seriously important strategies against even faster, more capable enemies and in the game's late stages those kinds of defense and attack skills become exceptionally valuable.  Its visually stunning appearance provides an immense level of satisfaction and pride compared to others.

8. Fate Breaker Set: A Late-Game Reward for Strategic Players.

This one is relatively free after reaching an early point and is a well-rounded boost to Kratos’ stats after exiting Rage mode! The Rage increase is welcome too, making this one great after you’ve already cleared major story elements.

7. Fallen Stars Set: Risk-Reward Combat, Striking Looks

Vanaheim's Fallen Stars set boosts Luck making the set have high risk. Yet it also creates occasional mini-explosions; with Runic attack defense, Runic cooldown reduction and really great visual designs! The actual benefit however remains significantly less when taking into consideration other choices with higher base defensive and offensive statistics. And obtaining the pieces is significantly harder than simply acquiring a set.

6. Lunda’s Lost Set: Poison Mastery, with a high cost, both temporally and through resource expenditures.

The unique thing here?  This is the ONLY set boosting poison damage output; reducing enemy strength and it works surprisingly well on harder modes! Its close combat style complements those choices but ultimately provides fewer options outside those kinds of attack options, which make those limited techniques the only way to succeed using this set.

5. Giptumadr’s Set: Runic Cooldown Restoration and Bonus Loot

Giptumadr’s set boosts Runic attacks (the ones with those intense cooldowns), it even partially restores Runic cooldowns; generating some highly significant offensive power coupled with an increase in resource rewards which only happens during gameplay using this set!

4. Guiding Light Set: Explosions and Luck, both through gameplay and rewards!

Another excellent offensive choice; looks really great and really enhances how enemies react. Boosting Luck creates mini-explosions, buffs currently used weapons, further demonstrating those highly synergistic elements only obtainable through a set designed toward its gameplay potential.

3. Nidavellir’s Finest Set: Stunning Enemies, Easy to Acquire.

Found rather early (you fix mining rigs, craft it using Nidavellir Ore!), this armor enhances stuns. Stuns make fights so much easier, creating the perfect synergy, enabling better offensive play-styles!

2. Undying Pyres Set: Elemental Charging for Maximum Damage

God of War Ragnarok's set called Lunda's Lost Armor, worn by Kratos. Image

One of the very first rewards (those Muspelheim trials) but far stronger than other sets (Surtr’s Scorched). This one enhances Permafrost and Immolation – charging those weapons while not taking damage, easily producing massive damage; and this set even complements these powers in many various aspects, significantly increasing potential toward greater gameplay outputs! This enhanced charging ability really changes how to tackle every enemy effectively, showing how easily damage and those powerful attacks could significantly increase.

1. The Best Armor is Your Skill

Giptumadr's Set in God of War Ragnarok. Image

Ultimately, the very best armor isn't something you buy. It’s mastering your combat skills, those skills in learning which weapons, abilities and styles to employ; This understanding shows which approach best adapts towards certain enemies; ultimately improving that efficiency in a major way and becoming the very thing which produces greater satisfaction for experienced and experienced players! All this enhances the core game experience! Learning those combat mechanics really shines as the core skill for those hoping for maximum levels of combat dominance.
