Week 8 fantasy football: Start 'Em, Sit 'Em – Your Guide to Victory!

No Bye Weeks, All the Action: Your Week 8 Fantasy Football Lineup

fantasy football fanatics, rejoice! week 8 is a rare treat—no teams on bye! This means your entire roster is available (barring injuries or suspensions). With a lot of players returning to fitness and others getting close to this level of readiness; you could face those extremely difficult decisions, but we are here to help!

Whether you need some surprise players to fill in those gaps or looking for some deeper roster options and unexpected heroes, you can always look at these players, especially in situations that involve numerous injury replacements that impact the depth of a squad; the waiver wire may hold many awesome players for this occasion.

Quarterbacks: The Big Guns and Sneaky Plays

Start 'Em

  • Jordan Love (GB) at Jacksonville: The Jaguars' D is super weak against QBs. Love's numbers (270.2 passing yards and three TDs per game) are killer!
  • Kirk Cousins (ATL) at Tampa Bay: Cousins exploded last time he played Tampa Bay (509 yards and five TDs!). Tampa is terrible against the pass.
  • Caleb Williams (CHI) at Washington: Williams is a rising star and faces a team that gave up 12 passing TDs this season. His consistency, along with his potential suggests greatness.
  • Bo Nix (DEN) vs. Carolina: Nix is mobile, the Panthers struggle against QBs, and he makes for a great sneaky play if you’re looking for a good QB2.
  • Geno Smith (SEA) vs. Buffalo: Smith leads the NFL in pass attempts (279) and passing yards (1985). This makes for a seriously high risk high-reward kind of gamble, especially if looking at players within the Seattle Seahawks franchise; even after the injury suffered by one of Seattle's more prolific players!

Sit 'Em

  • Patrick Mahomes (KC) at Las Vegas: Mahomes is ice cold. No TDs since Week 4! The Raiders D has also held its opponents down.
  • Tua Tagovailoa (MIA) vs. Arizona: Tua's returning after a long absence. Arizona's given up few passing TDs; they only allow low risk and generally underwhelming performances to visiting Quarterbacks, suggesting this visit from Tua is a low-reward, high-risk gamble
  • Brock Purdy (SF) at Dallas: Purdy’s great, but his receivers are banged up (Aiyuk out, Samuel questionable). That's bad news!
  • Jayden Daniels/Marcus Mariota (WAS) vs. Chicago: Daniels has a rib injury, Mariota has lower ceiling.  It really looks terrible for whoever will be leading the offense. It's best to look at these later when they have settled on a player.
  • C.J. Stroud (HOU) vs. Indianapolis: Stroud is averaging 139 passing yards and 1.5 TDs per game (low!). Indianapolis D is very strong against QBs.

Running Backs: The Workhorses and Potential Breakouts

Start 'Em

  • Jordan Mason (SF) at Dallas: Mason faces a Dallas defense weak against the run, this creates immense possibilities.
  • Javonte Williams (DEN) vs. Carolina: Williams just had his best game! He’s facing Carolina, super weak against RBs.
  • Kenneth Walker III (SEA) vs. Buffalo: Buffalo struggled against Breece Hall earlier in the season, and Walkers past success could easily return! His recent stats could very well reappear after these many changes.
  • Braelon Allen (NYJ) at New England: The Patriots defense gave up 195 yards and seven TDs to RBs recently, and that will make Allen worth more considering.

Sit 'Em

  • Tony Pollard (TEN) at Detroit: Pollard had 3.8 yards per carry against a solid Buffalo defense, and that could return!
  • Devin Singletary/Tyronne Tracy Jr. (NYG) at Pittsburgh: These players were splitting touches; that’s bad enough, coupled with Pittsburgh being really tough against the run, is worse. It’s best to look at other RB options!
  • Alvin Kamara (NO) at Los Angeles: Kamara's output is consistently low.
  • Chase Brown (CIN) vs. Philadelphia: Brown’s yards per carry are very, very low; and it isn’t improved through catching opportunities!

Wide Receivers: The Top Targets and Risky Plays

Start 'Em

  • Dontayvion Wicks (GB) at Jacksonville: Jacksonville is awful against WRs! That’s an automatic win!
  • Rashod Bateman (BAL) at Cleveland: Bateman is red-hot!
  • DJ Moore (CHI) at Washington: Washington is weak against the pass, generating lots of opportunities!
  • Jaylen Waddle (MIA) vs. Arizona: Waddle shines with Tua back! Arizona couldn’t stop Green Bay's WRs earlier.

Sit 'Em

  • Bub Means/Cedrick Wilson Jr. (NO) at Los Angeles: Los Angeles's defense is top-tier against WRs; the starting Quarterback and the receiving squad suggest this should not be played
  • Marvin Harrison Jr. (ARI) at Miami: Miami is insane against the pass! Don't risk it, especially when their stats are low.
  • Demario Douglas (NE) vs. New York: The Jets have an excellent defense; New York is good at shutting things down
  • Terry McLaurin (WAS) vs. Chicago: McLaurin’s QB situation is uncertain.  It would make even him, difficult to place reliance on.

Tight Ends: The Reliable Targets and Gamble Picks

Start 'Em

  • Dalton Schultz (HOU) vs. Indianapolis: Schultz thrives with Collins out; he faces an easy matchup.
  • Noah Fant (SEA) vs. Buffalo: Fant's a solid choice without MetcalfBuffalo is bad against TEs.
  • Kyle Pitts (ATL) at Tampa Bay: Pitts has chemistry with Cousins, and Tampa is terrible against TEs.

Sit 'Em

  • Grant Calcaterra (PHI) at Cincinnati: Calcaterra’s role is small despite an easy matchup. This is because his wide-receiver colleagues take the major chunk.
  • Zach Ertz (WAS) vs. Chicago: Ertz’s QB is questionable, the Chicago D is solid.
  • Juwan Johnson (NO) at Los Angeles:  With Rattler starting, New Orleans' passing game is weaker.

Kickers: The Steady Hands (and Risky Bets)

Start 'Em

  • Cameron Dicker (LAC) vs. New Orleans: Dicker's hot! New Orleans gives up lots of field goal attempts. Expect tons of kicks!
  • Wil Lutz (DEN) vs. Carolina: Lutz is averaging plenty of field goals; the high elevation could add some benefits!
  • Harrison Butker (KC) at Las Vegas: Las Vegas allows tons of attempts, and his low risks create additional possibilities, this creates good prospects!

Sit 'Em

  • Austin Seibert (WAS) vs. Chicago:  Chicago is really solid defensively, resulting in a lower amount of kick opportunities
  • Cairo Santos (CHI) at Washington: Washington’s defense is pretty tough. This makes it risky.
  • Chris Boswell (PIT) vs. New York: New York allows low attempts; it's a risky proposition!

Defense/Special Teams (D/ST): The Top Units and Units to Avoid

Start 'Em

  • Los Angeles Chargers vs. New Orleans: The Chargers D is amazing, New Orleans is awful offensively.
  • Kansas City Chiefs at Las Vegas: The Raiders have tossed many interceptions recently.
  • Pittsburgh Steelers at New York: The Steelers have a superb pass rush. They really should target Daniel Jones.
  • Green Bay Packers at Jacksonville: Green Bay’s D is fantastic. They frequently score, making them incredibly appealing for Week 8
  • Detroit Lions vs. Tennessee: Tennessee’s offense struggles.

Sit 'Em

  • Buffalo Bills at Seattle: Seattle’s offense is pretty good. The Bills have a mediocre run D.
  • Chicago Bears at Washington: Even if Mariota starts, the Bears’ ceiling is pretty low, they struggle overall, and would do much worse under the direction of a far more injured Daniels.
  • Philadelphia Eagles vs. Cincinnati: Cincinnati will likely use its own strategies to make this difficult.
  • Dallas Cowboys at San Francisco: The Cowboys lack Parsons. The 49ers running game is great, making for some seriously challenging situations to counter.
  • New York Giants vs. Pittsburgh: Pittsburgh is scoring tons of points. This is the reason for skipping.
