USS Constitution Side Quest Guide: Choose Ironsides Or Scavengers Fallout 4
Fallout 4 presents a wealth of engaging side missions and locations to investigate, and one especially fascinating meeting is at the beached Uss Constitution. This special mission forces the Sole Survivor to choose either to help scavengers destroy the ship for valuable scrap or assist a group of pre-war tourist attraction robots under Captain Ironsides.
Making the Correct Side Selection in the USS Constitution Quest
Approaching the ship, the "Last Voyage of the Uss Constitution" quest starts and you will be met by Mr. Handy called Lookout. Rising on two buildings, the USS Constitution is east of Bunker Hill. Lookout points you to meet Captain Ironsides, the self-aware sentry bot leader who formerly ran the ship as a tourist attraction.
Fixing the USS Constitution
The robot crew asks for your assistance in repairing their ship after turning back an initial scavenger attack. Ironsides has ambitious ideas for launching the Constitution into the sea to become a powerful Atlantic defender. Ironsides, dressed in traditional garb and language, is obviously aware of the fall of the United States and its military since he believes himself to be the highest ranking officer still active. Aiming to attack China, a past adversary from the Resource Wars, he plans
Decision: Ironsides or scavengers
You will be assigned to retrieve the ship's guidance chip—which the scavengers have pilfers—as you work through repairs. Promising a rich deal in exchange for betraying Ironsides and his crew, Mandy Stiles, the leader of the scavengers tries to turn you to their side.
Beside the Scavengers, siding
First you will be able to access the guidance chip if you decide to side with Mandy and her scavengers. Still, their motivations are far from moral. Following more repairs including retrieving the Turbopump Bearings, Mandy's accomplice Davies will sabotage the Bearings with acid, exploding the ship's rockets upon activation. The robot crew thus turns hostile and you must kill them.
Mandy's group finally double-crosses you as well, making you eliminate all scavengers to finish the mission, despite first treachery. This decision gives only somewhat more caps and no other special benefits, yet it nets the same XP as siding with Ironsides.
Following Ironsides
Choosing to stand with Ironsides calls for either forceful guidance chip acquisition or, with enough sneak ability, theft of it. This road advances in same manner until the Turbopump Bearings are retrieved. You could choose to betray Mandy and her scavengers by first quietly acquiring the guidance chip and then delivering it to Ironsides.
Install the bearings and another scavenger attack results; but, it can be avoided with the robot crew's assistance. Ironsides gives you the Broadsider, a potent heavy weapon basically a portable naval cannon, after you have turned back the attack.
The last act sees the Constitution soar into the heavens and finally fall toward a Boston Financial District skyscraper. You then go to the new site to meet Ironsides and pick up the Lieutenant's Hat, so finishing the mission.
Which Side Should One Choose?
Although the scavengers present an apparently good bargain, the more moral and fulfilling decision is finally to support Ironsides and his team. Their goal is benign despite their corrupted programming; the old ship deserves more than to be destroyed for scrap. Moreover, the benefits from Ironsides—including the Broadsider—much exceed the caps Mandy provides.
Whatever your choice, Fallout 4's "Last Voyage of the USS Constitution" presents a singular and unforgettable side quest that lets players see a huge ship swooping across the Boston skyline and finally choose the fate of a group of pre-war robots.
