Elden Ring: Shadow of the Erdtree & Torrent's Mysterious Connection
Elden Ring: Shadow Of The Erdtree is packed with new lore, but one early detail remains a mystery: Miquella riding Torrent in the DLC's first concept art. While both Miquella and Torrent appear in the DLC, they never interact. So, what's the deal?
The concept art sparked speculation about Miquella's connection to Torrent, a spectral steed with goat-like horns. No other creature in Elden Ring looks like Torrent.
While the Dlc adds depth to Elden Ring's story, it doesn't explain this connection. This is a bummer, especially since Torrent's Lore is already pretty thin.
Elden Ring's Torrent: A Big Missed Opportunity?
Melina gives the Tarnished a Spectral Steed Whistle when they first meet. However, she makes it clear that Torrent chose the Tarnished, not the other way around. This suggests Torrent has a mind of its own and chooses its rider.
Ranni the Witch also acknowledges Torrent by name, stating that she's heard stories of the Tarnished riding it. She even gives the Tarnished a gift from "Torrent's former master" - the Spirit Calling Bell.
So, who was Torrent's former master? Could it be Miquella? The concept art suggests this, and it lines up with other Lore. Miquella and the Tarnished share a common goal: ending the Golden Order.
Perhaps Miquella sent Torrent to the Lands Between while he was in the Land of Shadow, where the spectral steed found the Tarnished. However, when the Tarnished started following in Miquella's footsteps, Miquella had to step in to explain his plan and offer an alliance.
While the Dlc doesn't explicitly reveal anything new about Torrent, the hints are there. It's up to players to connect the dots and figure out the connection between Miquella and Torrent.
Shadow Of The Erdtree is full of secrets, and this is just one more that players can try to unravel.
