The term Dinosaur usually means any of the creatures that existed in a pre historic era which has been featured throughout the past using bone structures, film and museums. More recently there has been a unique way dinosaurs have been showcased to bring entertainment while also acknowledging a special world record was broken.
The Guinness world record for the "Largest Gathering of People Dressed as Dinosaurs” was just set by the city of West Palm Beach with 468 individuals . The people at the gathering wore a range of costumes including Dinosaurs such as Tyrannosaurus Rex, Triceratops, and Stegosaurus in full costume to meet the requirements set to break the previous record.
The event brought together a multitude of participants who gathered in creative ways in dinosaur themed costumes to take part in the achievement which created great fun for many who attended. It also highlights the spirit of community with individuals of all kinds coming to celebrate and be a part of a world record.
guinness world record s stated that in order to meet guidelines for the event a very specific criteria had to be met. Those being all the individuals have to be fully covered by their costumes from head to toe and not be wearing a variation of reptile such as a dragon, Pterodactyl as only specific dinosaur designs will count for record recognition.
Each participant who was accepted as an official contestant for the world record had to stay in their full attire until the officials from Guinness could do a formal head count of the dinosaur costumed patrons. The record is to recognize how many showed up for this type of event dressed as actual dinosaurs not similar styles.
This gathering was a mix of public fun that also served as a collaboration to coincide with the Cox Science Center and Aquarium’s current exhibit, "Dinosaur Safari: A Walkthrough Adventure,". This combined with West Palm Beach’s monthly "Screen on the Green" event created a way to bring two areas of entertainment into one memorable evening.
A showing of Disney's movie “Dinosaur” and the popular movie “Jurassic Park” was shown directly after the record attempt. Combining these events provided a full themed dinosaur celebration as well as showing old favorite classic pieces of entertainment on large viewing screens.
For some those who were involved came about by seeing it unexpectedly, such as one participant Matt Freeman and a friend had been out boating that day when they stumbled across the crowd. As it was told he spoke to the representatives of Guinness World Records that he too wanted to be a part of it then immediately joined to be a participant. Those involved did so for various reasons some knowing and planning and other due to pure impulse.
The collaboration from the Cox Science Center and Aquarium along with the City of West Palm Beach has shown how those organizations created new excitement. Both the organizations were able to deliver the events from different angles of enjoyment such as science or recreation with a fun loving community spirit.
