Cyberpunk 2077 Play It Safe: Oda, spare or kill?
Choices in Cyberpunk 2077 have consequences, thus sparing or killing Sandayu Oda in the Play It Safe mission will affect one of the game's ends. Players come across Oda, Hanako Arasaka's personal bodyguard, on the mission to try to reach Hanako at a procession in memory of her father, Saburo. Following the boss fight with Oda, players must decide what to do; they might either spare or take his life. Later on in the game, this choice might have major effects.
Sandayu Oda is a person.
Oda is a quite strong and highly talented opponent. With his cybernetic improvements—mantis blades—he is lethal and agile in close quarters fighting. Oda can also use Active Camo to turn invisible while healing and planning his assaults and attack from a distance with an SMG and homing missiles. He doesn't take as much damage from thermal attacks and his mask interferes with smart weapons' autolocking, thus he is opposed to them.
Oda trained Goro Takemura, who first belonged to the Arasaka security detail, in the past. They respect one another and feel kinship. Though Oda advises them to keep it quiet and not to get in touch with Saburo once more, Takemura thinks Oda knows the circumstances surrounding his murder.
Effect of killing or sparing Oda on cyberpunk 2077 endings
Players must decide whether to kill Oda or save his life once they beat him. Takemura pleads with V to spare Oda; should V decide to kill him, Takemura expresses his wrath and cautions V on remembering this action. But killing Oda lets players pick up a legendary level weapon from his body.
The "The Devil" ending is much influenced by sparing Oda. Should Oda be spared, he will be taken for medical treatment and show up in the "Totalimmortal" main job—a crucial component of the "The Devil" finale. Making Hanako's offer for assistance in Nocturne Op55N1 helps one to reach this ending. Oda will help V in this ending only if Takemura makes it through the "Search and destroy" mission's pursuit after the parade. Should Takemura survive, he will bring allies—including Oda—to the Arasaka Tower siege, where Oda will harass those who voice disapproval of Hanako. As Yorinobu's army moves toward the elevator, Oda will also assist fight against them. Though his part is rather small, it pays for the player's earlier choice to save him.
Even if they follow the questline, players are locked out of "The Devil" ending should Takemura die following the parade. This is so since the ending calls for players to assist Takemura in exacting revenge for Saburo's death.
Looting the renowned Jinchu-Maru Weapon
Players may loot Oda's signature weapon, the Jinchu-maru katana, after defeating him. Only the base game offers this legendary weapon; players must not have bought the "Phantom Liberty" expansion. Expansion owners may buy it from Herold Lowe at the EBM Petrochem Stadium in Dogtown.
Originally owned by Takemura, who presented the fashionable katana to Oda following his training, the Jinchu-maru is a In a combo attack, it has a particular modulator that doubles the damage from the last strike. Using Optical Camo allows the user to launch Leap Attacks on adversaries, thus all hits are assured to be critical damage. It is a useful weapon for melee fighting as it also deals more damage to Elite and Boss enemies.
Making the Correct Decision: Cyberpunk 2077 Player Choice
The player's chosen playstyle and their view of V will ultimately determine whether they want to kill or spare Oda. While some players would want a more sympathetic approach, others could feel V should be merciless. Because they result in a range of events and narratives, these decisions make Cyberpunk 2077 repeatable.
