Don't miss out on this timed side quest in Cyberpunk 2077!
Cyberpunk 2077 isn't known for having a lot of time-limited quests, but there is one that you won't want to miss. If you take too long to finish it, you will lose a recurring character permanently. That may not seem like a big deal in the grand scheme of Night City, but believe us when we say that this Side Quest will break your heart.
"Fortunate Son" is a side quest with a secret timer
The side quest "Fortunate Son" begins immediately after you complete "Queen of the Highway," a key mission in Panam's storyline. You'll find Bob at the nomad camp, and he'll tell you that his buddy Jake Scooter needs a new kidney right away. A cybernetic implant appears to have the potential to save Scooter, but it is located in Little China, all the way across town.
V has a mission: race across Night City to grab the implant and return it to Bob. But it isn't that simple. There are twists and turns, and if you pay attention, you'll notice that the police inserted a virus into the implant to apprehend a group of nomads. Once V understands this and explains it to Bob, he will be able to remove the virus and save Scooter. But there's a catch: if you take more than 24 hours to return to Bob with the kidney, Scooter will die.
You're probably thinking, "24 hours?" "That's plenty of time!" And you're correct; it should be. However, the game's hidden Time Limit is intended to punish players who neglect "Fortunate Son". You need to act quickly!
Why You Should Save Scooter
So, why go out of your way to help Scooter? It unlocks a very touching scene later in the game. If you save him, you'll find him serenading the Aldecaldos camp with a fairly diverse repertoire. He can play "The Beast of Beauclair," the boss theme from The Witcher 3, which is just one of the many Witcher references in Cyberpunk. He can also perform covers of the fictional in-universe band Us Cracks, which can be heard on the radio throughout Night City.
But there's something extra special if you align with the Aldecaldos during "Nocturne Op55N1." You'll gain access to the quest "We Gotta Live Together." If you check in with Scooter during that quest, he'll sing a brand new song, a tragic ballad about a man who wanders aimlessly until he gets caught up in a deadly gunfight. It's a song that reflects the fates of several characters in the game, particularly the Aldecaldo nomads.
The song Scooter sings is the same one heard during "Pyramid Song," the final mission in Judy Álvarez's storyline. This makes sense given the story's themes of being forced to wander after losing your home. The melody also plays at the end of The Star. To hear Scooter's full cover, you must unlock that ending, and believe us when we say it is well worth it.
"Fortunate Son" Is A Must-Do
While Scooter may not be the most important character in the story, saving him unlocks a truly beautiful and unique scene and song, especially if you choose The Star ending. "Fortunate Son" is one of Cyberpunk 2077's few time-limited quests, and it has a long-term impact on the story, so don't forget about it!
