This quest is unlocked by talking to the NPCs outside Cephla Lake Cave. They tell you about a treasure-filled cave, but most of the chests only contain green rupees. However, one chest holds a big treasure, and finding it takes the patience of a true hero.
Once you've started this quest, all you have to do is feed the dog at Foothill Stable, and it'll lead you to the treasure chest! BF00000 later revealed that they had already completed the quests given by the NPCs, which meant there was technically nothing left for the dog to lead them to. Mystery solved!
