The performance of the national anthem is a key part of most American sporting events, creating an atmosphere of unity and pride. Recently, many are wondering " Who sang national anthem tonight? ", specifically on Monday, January 13 2025, which featured an important NFL Wildcard game.
Rachel Platten a highly recognized and award winning pop artist and singer/song writer was the one who sang The Star Spangled Banner at this NFL Playoff Game. Platten is known for her powerful voice and popular hits like “Fight Song.” She gave both the national anthem and a pre game performance.
In addition to the National Anthem performance she also sang “Fight Song.” Which is known for it's empowering lyrics at a performance in tribute to Los Angeles. This was all before kick off of the important wild card game with strong emphasis on the game being more than just sport that evening.
The game had the Los Angeles Rams competing against the Minnesota Vikings on Monday night, in a game that was relocated due to devasting wildfires taking place at the time. This move prompted some to re think many scheduled entertainment options for that day as they were taking place much further than previously planned.
The wildfires moved the game from Los Angeles to State Farm Stadium in Glendale, Arizona which has created many challenges for travel and overall production of the scheduled performances. However there was still emphasis that although displaced, there was also going to be a great display of American pride and also community.
The performances, along with a special message by former Rams player Andrew Whitworth focused on bringing people together to support the city and also honor the lives that were impacted by the recent blazes. That presentation showed a sense of unity while they all dealt with what happened both on and off the field.
As a visual display of honor members of the team and coaches had special "LAFD" shirts on the field before kickoff. This along with the team having some merchandise being sold that helped raise money created a form of support for people affected. Players such as Cooper Kupp and Matthew Stafford appeared emotional throughout this period while being displayed to viewers.
Platten performed The Star Spangled Banner and it’s said she had become emotional at the close of it which many found to be authentic. Along with her tribute, those in the stadium had showed emotions for not just those that lost, but for those who were putting all they had in every moment. Her personal dedication to honoring Los Angeles had added depth to her overall performance. She not only used her performance for honoring heroes, she helped create unity within the location.
Both the "Fight Song" and National Anthem had a deep connection with the emotions running during the event of honoring fire fighters with the images being shown of them and Los Angeles while they were playing which elevated a typical sporting event. The added visual support for the community along with performance art made a lasting message. The focus of the event was much more than a game being played at a new location but what the spirit of sports can do in community building.
The game was attended by many long time and newly converted fans. As there were also options for special events there was a good turn out for Los Angeles which was set on making it a day of hope. Many fans drove down from the Los Angeles area, including season ticket holders.
Rams fans showed up in droves by buying more than 25000 tickets quickly. As they arrived by bus they had gifts at each seat such as towels and other items to help their viewing experience, adding a thoughtful touch despite what the team was overcoming.
The game and all that surrounded it was televised on national television with both ESPN and ABC airing the game for viewership around the world to see. For those who preferred digital options the show was also available on Paramount and many other subscription services making this game accessible by many outlets.
For those seeking digital options the games had several live streaming services allowing even more people to see and engage in each special moment from game play to artistically inspired additions such as Platten's performances.
