Why Devery Jacobs's Backspot Is a Long-Overdue Starring Role
Backspot emphasizes Devery Jacobs' dramatic talents front and center in what might be a major turn even more than the actor's past films, as the trailer above shows. Backspot centers the actor in an even more direct manner, while Jacobs' introduction to many viewers was as a shining member of the cast of Reservation Dogs (a critically-acclaimed Hulu original series about a group of Indigenous teens growing up on an Oklahoma reservation). Thanks in part for the involvement of people like Elliot Page and Evan Rachel Wood; even more viewers might find Jacobs's skills in this new movie.
Devery Jacobs, the actor asked about Backspot, disclosed she was also a gymnast with awards. Riley's performance thus seems almost perfect for highlighting a wide spectrum of Jacobs' skills. Her capacity to execute gymnastics techniques herself also guarantees more natural performance overall, therefore enhancing the dramatic impact on the audience and highlighting her strengths.

The Backspot Chronicles
Backspot opened at South By Southwest six years after the idea was developed, as director D.W. Waterson recently disclosed in a Screen Rant interview. Early on, Jacobs signed on as a producer for the movie, which became a long-burning passion project for the actor. Gymnastics was his love. Given how long viewers must wait to see Jacobs's strengths on show in the original manner Backspot permits, the film is overdue indeed.
On May 31 Backspot opens theaters.
