Matt Smith describes the advice previous Doctor Who actor David Tennant gave him upon assuming the role. In the popular BBC series, Tennant was the Tenth Doctor; Smith followed as the Eleventh Doctor. Tennant returned briefly to Doctor Who before Ncuti Gatwa became the Fourteenth Doctor. Currently showing episodes every week, Gatwa is performing the Fifteenth Doctor in Doctor Who season 14.
In a Variety interview, Smith shares the advise Tennant gave him upon the Doctor Who stars changing positions. Tennant advised learning his lines on Sunday, the weekend before a full week of shooting, according to Smith. The Eleventh Doctor actor then went on to explain why the line learning of Doctor Who was such a "voracious" endeavour.
In Doctor Who, Tennant's advise was really effective. On film as the Time Lord, Smith is a force to be reckoned with. He offers more vitality than almost any other actor who has portrayed The Doctor in any Doctor Who season because of his almost flawless delivery of difficult scientific fiction ideas. It's amazing that a star like Tennant could provide Smith such wise counsel as it made that entire Doctor Who era outstanding.
This guidance not only helped Smith's career overall, which has truly exploded following Doctor Who, but also produced an enchanted performance. After his 2010 series debut, the actor has been cast in several roles in major films and TV shows. Signifying his entry into blockbuster movies, he was instrumental in 2015 for Terminator Genisys. Another major TV role he had was Phillip for seasons 1 and 2 of the Netflix series The Crown.
Originally running in 1963, Doctor Who is a sci-fi series with a strong human Time Lord known as the Doctor. Using an interdimensional time-traveling ship called the TARDIS, the Doctor journeys throughout time and space with many companions to solve a range of problems and aid prevent catastrophe, as well as almost trigger it. The Doctor is always the same character, however they undergo regenerations which enable them to be recast every few seasons as a different immortal creature with fresh personality traits.
Great performers abound on the show. Every actor that has portrayed the Doctor approaches the part in different ways. A fairly well-known television figure, The Doctor has attracted a lot of admirers. Actually, the showrunner has a lot of duty since they have to guarantee the continued strength of the Doctor's role based on long history.
The Eleventh Doctor actor then went on to say that the line learning work for Doctor Who was especially "insatiable". The fact that the Doctor bears a great expositional weight in the show and that the show is a television series instead of a visually florid film constituted challenges. Examine the complete Smith quotation below:
This is a little fragment of what Steven Moffat most likely penned. For this work, line learning was unquenchable. David Tennant, bless him, told me when I initially got the position and called him looking for help, and he was incredibly gracious in offering it. "Learn all your lines on Sunday," he said, "you'll need to go back and do them because you're filming 10 pages a day." He is really the central point of exposition since he is describing everything he observes. You are not doing it visually quite the same way you would in a film; you have to explain what is happening to the audience since you are aiming for television. Given the storyline has to move so fast. Line learning is thus rather a difficult chore to do.
Popular figure The Doctor has drawn well from viewers on this new season. Heroes with time and space travel are the Doctor. Future direction of the show will be fascinating to observe.
On June 16, House of the Dragon season 2 will first show on HBO. Currently one of the most watched shows on TV, Game of Thrones, House of the Dragon is a spinoff. Excellent reviews of the program and Smith's performance point to his actor's strength. If Tennant's generosity in passing knowledge to his Doctor Who successor hadn't been there, Prince Daemon Targaryen might not be the same as he is now.
