Sling is a popular streaming service that provides a variety of channels, features and opportunities to view content. It's known for it's live TV capabilities and on demand libraries making for an interactive approach.
Sling is one of the more noted alternatives to cable TV. Their free streaming service known as Sling Freestream, now has expanded their selection by more than 400 channels with over 41000 movies and shows as a growing platform that reaches more households. There has also been an addition of 11 new channels to expand its diverse catalog which helps viewers who may not want to go beyond its free platform.
The recent new channel additions are mainly of the nature of niche and different genres of content that aim at a varied interest group of viewers. With new titles the goal is to elevate a specific genre’s interest while creating something new to each category within their library.
A significant addition to the Freestream is “Kim’s Convenience,” which is a sitcom. It was previously unknown outside its native land but since it's been given attention more viewers have gained interest and its popularity is steadily growing with new audiences.
"Kim's Convenience” follows the Kim family who are Korean-Canadian who run a convenience store in Toronto. It’s notable for giving many actors a launch to fame, such as Simu Liu who now stars in Marvel's Shang Chi and the movie Barbie.
The Sling Freestream offers not only classic shows but also many areas of programming. This creates an approach which reaches several types of viewers all on one platform for free. This includes channels for all demographics and varied viewing types.
Some new additions include a channel focused on Home improvement (Homeful) as well as a classic western channel featuring "The Life and Times of Wyatt Earp”. Other selections that have been added showcase an array of what it brings to its viewer base. The combination of genres provides various options on their platform with different backgrounds, opinions and viewing choices being offered for free.
While free content can reach many there are times a platform will do price hikes for it’s subscription programs to compensate for losses. However that is a common issue with all streaming platforms today in both their paid and non paid models.
The free models aim to draw new viewers and gain interest to have them subscribe to some of the other streaming content that is offered. With competition between a variety of similar options each seeks different creative ways to showcase what is provided in order to grow popularity.
A football game between Penn State and Notre Dame has become relevant to understanding what the Sling platforms also offer outside of TV shows. An interesting element became more apparent because a Penn State game that featured a heart stopping finale that has caused many to remember that there is a variety of entertainment within the platform for different people with unique tastes. That includes sporting events which makes Sling a very diverse place to view material.
Penn State vs Notre Dame, showcased many strong athletes with both success and failure being present throughout that series. Viewers could see raw emotion after each major turn which demonstrated the value of the show being carried through to the live broadcast, streaming format and ultimately a new viewing approach.
