Sims 4: Are In-Game Ads the New Normal?

You'd think gamers would love being showered with free new content in The Sims 4, but when EA and Maxis go too far, fans might find some real reason to complain, especially when those surprises come as pop-up ads!

Ads In The Sims 4

What does a long-loved franchise like The Sims offer to gamers?

  • They are known for delivering fresh and new content. There's been tons of expansion packs.
  • New and fresh additions!
  • Those expansions were incredibly enjoyable. They became pretty commonplace to those playing The Sims 4. But if you ask some fans of this incredible, classic game, they'll tell you that the new DLC packs might not be what is creating the biggest upset right now.

Players, now more than ever are frustrated with EA and Maxis. That's because they are being inundated with new ads, but it wasn't the first time gamers would become annoyed.

The company decided to announce upcoming additions, that includes new content. What seems strange, is they started making Ads in the game!

  • The main menu already shows new items as they're released, so some would ask- "Why do you have to add extra content on a main menu?!" It seems as if a certain Reddit user (who is called "Rainbow-Elephant3445") came forward and made an exciting claim. That these adds now appear before players are even able to load the main menu of the game!
  • This seems intrusive for any type of gamer. To top it off? It also can't be disabled.
  • That would explain the comment from Stegosagus, another Reddit user. He described it as, an ad "keeps popping up" when people are going through the game!

More Than Just One Kind of Ad

To understand how it all began we have to look back. A super weird period back in early 2024, where EA made it clear how it would take an aggressive stance towards advertisements for their games, while still offering new content.

  • One of the new changes was on the main menu. Players found that new features were constantly being announced.
  • It created some level of annoyance from the gaming world. So much so, that fans of The Sims 4 made an effort to get some workarounds! In fact, people started designing mods for the game.
  • These modifications could get rid of the advertising features!
  • A new feature that gamers could get from mods were a streamlined homepage!

To be sure, ads, are the lifeblood of the gaming industry! Many of those who might think ads should not be a part of paid games, need to remember that The Sims 4 is free to play, making In-game Ads somewhat rEAsonable and may even be viewed by many as necessary.

However, it does lEAve a question for players- "Should you really have to endure these forced Ads while already in a paid product?" Especially when you get new content!

In reality, there's a reason this kind of advertising is done and may bring more to the overall experience! It does raise concerns as to whether or not these ads might just push some away from the franchise, in a world where everyone wants something entertaining, as well as an experience that is less intrusive. These are great reasons why some might question "The Sims" future. If EA continues to rely on these aggressive methods of advertising, players might not get the chance to experience The Sims 5 as well.
