The success of Silent Hill relies entirely on successfully creating and conveying fear. Thus any sequel that makes this same type of appeal works beautifully!

Those Silent Hill rituals rarely end well. The resulting potential consequence for reviving Mary ? A truly nightmare sequel. A potentially monstrous, non-human Mary fueled by resentment might create a brand-new kind of Silent Hill horror focused on Mary's anger and trauma. The sequel is entirely set by those supernatural influences affecting the environment.
